A vile video of Joe Rogan using explicitly sexist and demeaning language

Will the Sanders campaign jettison Joe Rogan now?

This vile, explicit video clip of Joe Rogan talking sexually about Hillary Clinton now almost 300,000 views. The Sanders campaign is sticking with Rogan.

Tom Watson added,
I'm sure the Sanders campaign is mighty proud of this. All you Joe Rogan defenders in the media as well. Good times, boys.
If I were to vote in a presidential

Joe Biden

Not sure what to say. They guy calls gay men the "f-word" and at the same time is a strong advocate for things like gay marriage. The contradictory nature of him and the offensive language is probably what some people like about him. I mean, would it be better for him to use all the right language but oppose gay marriage? Maybe it would, after all that's what Obama was in 2008.

But the bottom line is, Bernie receiving the endorsement is not the same as Bernie validating everything the guy said. If every politician were held to that absurd standard, then the whole field would get wiped out pretty quick, and we might as well just hand the thing over to Trump.

More false equivalencies, and "jeez. lighten up" accusations that those who think the video in the OP is disgusting are simply "faking" "faux woke outrage."

See the thing is, we're talking about one specific personality, Joe Rogan who makes a living spewing misogynist and racist material, and a specific politician who has presented himself as "THE" social justice candidate, "THE" woke candidate who has not simply "tolerated" that misogynist's support but presented it as "evidence" that he can "appeal" to that audience.

Yeah, tell us about MoveOn being 'centrists' displaying "faux woke outrage..."

Aren't you glad to know that you're totally with Richard Spencer with 'splaining that Rogan's particular appeal is "mainstream?"

What mindset does one have to be in to enjoy that material? "Shoot a woman in the "c....t" and the commentary on why HRC isn't appealing enough for a blow job.

Again - is that why so many Sanders supporters want to somehow minimize the content of this video?

See that's where you actually divide the hack hate mongers like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Joe Rogan from satirists or from the artists who use profanity to hold a mirror up to society - Pryor, Kinison, Bill Hicks. What mindset do you have to be in to find their work? At least Glenn Beck and Howard Stern have stated that they now regret what complete hateful assholes they have been in the past. Rush and Rogan, not so much.

But interestingly, Bernie didn't simply "ignore" Martin Skrelli's support of him, and made a very public deal about returning Skrelli's campaign donation. Why do you think he chose to deal with Skrelli so differently?

You still haven't explained how your dismissal of "faux woke outrage" applies to the Sanders supporters who didn't fall in line and praise Sanders's endorsement of Cenk, and by extension Cenk... and convinced Sanders to backpedal and retract his endorsement, as well as Cenk frantic announcement saying that he was 'rejecting all endorsements" to cover for the two that were retracted from progressive male politicians.

If you have to bend over backwards and use a litany of rhetorical fallacies (false equivalencies, false dilemmas, attacking strawmen) to defend your point, perhaps your point needs re-examining.

I think it's absurd to compare Joe Rogan to Rush Limbaugh because Rush Limbaugh is a hard-right-winger and Joe Rogan is clearly not. Joe Rogan uses worse language, yes, but Rush Limbaugh promotes a hard-right ideology which Rogan does not.

There are different axes going on. One is the offensiveness of the language and the jokes, and the other is the political positions advocated. So you'll have Joe Rogan, for example, tossing around the anti-gay f***** word in his jokes. Completely unacceptable. Rush doesn't do that. But Joe Rogan is strongly in favor of gay marriage, while Rush Limbaugh is strongly against that.

They are different animals entirely.

How do you explain a hard alt right leader like Richard Spencer calling Rogan mainstream?

One is the offensiveness of the language and the jokes, and the other is the political positions advocated.

Yes, I discussed that. The difference between social commentary and bigoted shit is the mindset you need to be in to find it funny.

Again... what kind of mindset do you need to be in to find the video in the OP funny?

A feminist one? One of a "social justice candidate?"

Do watch and get back to me.

And you still evade answering how "faux woke centrist outrage" applies to Moveon...

And how it applied to Sanders' supporters being angry enough to get him to retract his embrace of Cenk...

Finding that difficult?

I mean, I'm sure I'll find it repulsive, based on the description, but I just haven't seen it.

I don't care what Richard Spencer says, he's a lunatic, and nobody is seeking his endorsement. He can say what he wants.

Yes, I discussed that. The difference between social commentary and bigoted shit is the mindset you need to be in to find it funny.

I don't think the video is funny, and I don't think anyone with a social justice or feminist mindset would find it funny. All I'm saying is that there are large numbers of voters who don't share what you or I would call a feminist or social justice mindset, and their votes count just as much.

I don't condone Rogan's jokes. And I don't believe at all that we should change our positions on women's issues or anything else to accommodate voters without a feminist mindset. I do think that if we can get votes from people without a feminist mindset, without changing our positions and our principles, then we should do that. Because if we only get votes from self-described feminists, then Trump is going to be president again.

63. I absolutely think others are faking outrage. Here's why.
Sun Jan 26, 2020, 11:24 AM
Jan 2020

I have yet to see a single person, either here or on twitter, who isn't either (a) a professional pundit or (b) already firmly anti-Bernie make a big deal out of this. It's the same people who are offended every time Bernie takes a step.

In the real world, comedians make offensive jokes. Yes, including jokes about political leaders giving blowjobs. Here on DU, there are plenty of jokes about Trump giving a blowjob to Putin. The same people offended here aren't offended there, even though it's homophobic humor. Why? Because in reality, people have thicker skin than when they pretend to be outraged.

Like I posted in another thread, Mayor Pete accepted an endorsement by a guy who also has a shock jock talk show, and who is on video bent over laughing about murdering trans women. Guess what, none of the same centrists on twitter care the least bit about that. I could post 20 more examples of candidates buddying up to people who have said bigoted things. It would be the same, none of the same people would care, as long as that candidate wasn't Bernie Sanders.

I could have predicted all this, because it's obvious from the start that none of the outrage has anything to do with actually being offended. It's all hypocrisy, and it's so obvious.
