Related: About this forumFlores: Politics was 'impetus' for Biden allegation
Former Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores says "politics was definitely the impetus" for her accusation of "inappropriate" conduct against then-Vice President Joe Biden, when asked about her response to people saying that her accusation is politically-motivated.

(59 posts)The Republicans have now raised the bar for accusations. You just deny, attack the accuser and you're done. So if you don't have video evidence of the actual assault (forget confessions, ala grab them by the p*ssy), then it is a non-starter. And apparently everyone is OK with these new rules as the media has allowed Donnie and Kavanaugh a total pass

Trump/Kavenaugh camp, even as the accuser flat-out admits she's coming forward for political reasons.

(23,181 posts)As long as Kavenaugh remained where he was on the bench she remained silent. When it became apparent he was about to be nominated to the highest court in the land she felt she could no longer hold onto the secret she had been living with. That is a political reason for coming forward in the nonpartisan sense of that word, and it is also a plausible explanation for why Flores spoke up now. When the alleged encounter occurred Biden was a Vice President serving out the rest of his term who did not enter the competition to run for President himself in 2016. With Biden now giving every indication that he is about to announce his candidacy for President in 2020, the parallel to Dr. Ford's decision making process becomes plausible.
I have no way to know the truth yet and little reason to guess. Even in the worst light possible the allegation against Biden is nowhere in the same league as that made against Kavenaugh. And right now it is just based on the (I am willing to believe genuine) reaction of one woman to what may well have been an entirely innocent (even if perhaps not careful enough) personal interaction.
I am not jumping to any conclusion. Not against Flores, not against Biden.

(26,690 posts)for president. The reason why I felt so compelled to finally say something was over the years, as this behavior was documented, as it was documented by the media and, frankly, dismissed and not taken seriously, that conversation was not coming up in the discussions of whether or not he would, in a complete analysis of his history, of his record, as we go through the vetting process for all these candidates, that important aspect was being left out... and wasn't being acknowledged."
She goes on to say she is not comparing this to rape, but does believe it is inappropriate. I agree with her and also believe this conversation about his behavior is overdue; a primary vetting is as good a time as any.

(23,181 posts)Others can weigh in, but Biden seems to be much closer to being on the verge of announcing now than he was at any time previously, either this year or prior to the 2016 race. It seemed to me that the media had all but announced that Biden had decided to run this year, lining up staff, lining up donors, slipping up and tipping his hat in a speech that he was running etc. Biden spoke more often of the reasons why he might not run last time around. His decision making process in 2016 never seemed to get this close to a green light as it appears to have this time over the last few weeks.

(3,868 posts)Were that not the case we would not be hearing about this incidence of Biden's "boorish" behavior. At some point people have to determine for themselves what actions are deemed disqualifying or most men will be eliminated from holding or even running for office. A zero tolerance policy isn't the answer. I'm not willing to throw male politicians under the bus for behavior that doesn't rise to the threshold of harassment or abuse. Let the voters decide.

(3,666 posts)Cause it's not that big of a deal and not worth making a federal case over. But since he is running for office, it's worth my going on TV to try to ... what exactly?
This makes no sense. It makes no sense for the media to give her such coverage.

(60,864 posts)ahead of Bernie in the polls, and she's a Bernie supporter.
The difference now is that there was media coverage earlier this year of misogynistic behavior in Bernie's 2016 campaign, and Flores, who admitted she knew of the complaints at the time (which she apparently didn't find objectionable enough to cause her to stop supporting Berne), said she wanted the media to focus on other candidates' campaigns and behavior.
I doubt Flores would have brought this up if Bernie had been leading in the polls and Biden had been polling at a few percent or less.

(10,860 posts)When I last checked, the pussy-grabber-in-chief was still running away from 23 sexual assault allegations.
How do you think Judge Kavanaugh would consider her complaints about Biden. If he'd been at the event, he might have pulled her face into his unzipped pants and laughed about it.
How about asking Trump's labor secretary, Alex Acosta, to look into it. Jeffrey Epstein can vouch for him quickly settling sex cases.
I'm concerned with false equivalences in the media hurting Joe Biden and that there is some political motivation behind what she is doing and how she is doing it.
