Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWe know that Trump is scared to death of Joe Biden... question is why?
I mean... Trump committed impeachable offenses to stop the guy. He hasn't done anything like that with any other Democratic candidate.
I believe they really think sizeable chunks of their base - the under-educated whites making less than $75k per year - will have no problem voting for Biden. Biden is a "working man's" Democrat. He has bonafides with them.
I think they know they literally have no path to win Pennsylvania or Michigan or Wisconsin if Biden is the nominee.
Trump is going to Iowa tomorrow night *SPECIFICALLY* to try to bring Joe Biden down. Biden will be the focus of his rally.
The only other candidate that Trump fears at all is Bloomberg - and mainly because he could never keep up with Bloomberg's campaign spending.
They aren't afraid of Bernie Sanders. They aren't afraid of Liz Warren. They aren't afraid of Pete Buttigieg. They might be afraid of Amy Klobuchar, but they don't think she has a chance of winning the nomination.
Biden has street cred with the black community that no other remaining candidate can come close to. Because of his 8 years as Obama's VP, they trust him. No other candidate left in the race will be trusted by the black community like Biden. A Biden/Harris ticket would drive black turnout back to 2012 levels.
Trump is stupid. But his campaign is not. They know this. They know they need to nip Biden in the bud, because if he is leading after Super Tuesday, he'll be inevitable.
As much as I think Amy Klobuchar would make the best President of our bunch of candidates... I fear that unless she has a major surprise in Iowa and finishes in the Top 2, she will begin the slow decline as her supporters - like me - start to coalesce around Biden.
Trump is showing us who would beat him by showing us who he fears. He fears Joe Biden would rehabilitate the Obama coalition and beat him.
To Trump, stopping Biden means elevating Bernie. Let's not fall for it.

(1,701 posts)the segments of our democratic coalition, Joe Biden is someone who working people relate with. And that's across ethnic lines, but includes the white working class that Trump needs in industrial states to win.
His support in the black community is profoundly deep and comes out of long relationships where they've come to know the man.
Jewish voters, Catholic voters, Latinx voters all know Joe Biden is someone who will have their backs.
And in terms of matchups, it is like Biden was custom made to defeat Trump. Trump's insult simply do not work on Joe Biden. They just don't. He and Speaker Pelosi are the two people who seem immune to Trump's childish behavior and his bullying tactics.
Biden knows how to deal with bullies. Some people think that because he's held his fire on fellow Democrats when on a debate stage that Joe doesn't know how to deal a knock-out blow to fools like Trump. Nothing could be a more grave mistake.
He's ready. He will win. And his coat-tails will provide huge benefits in low ballot races like Arizona's Senate seat.
I hope he picks Amy as VP. That's looking like the strongest ticket we have, in my estimation.
Biden is the man for this moment.

(8,148 posts)an American heart, our collective affections, transcends policy distinctions and makes for an advantage not shared by other candidates despite their many plusses. Opponents can poke fun at nostalgia and attempt to dismiss the longing for stability as mere fear, but along with
a resume full of experience and tangible accomplishment, Biden connects us to the sense of a better America striving for greater inclusion and compassion, yes, a safer world. Now thats also a great vision for the future.

(1,812 posts)Joe was Pro- NAFTA , Pro TPP ...He guided the Bankruptcy Bill through the Senate ..He has supported proposed Cuts in Social Security and Medicare during his entire Senate career- as well as during his tenure as Vice President (Remember The Grand Bargain ? ) . ...He supported the Iraq War Resolution . It is all on CSPAN's Senate Archives .. Trump's campaign is going to blanket the airwaves with this stuff ......The blue collar and working class voters in The Rust Belt know nothing of Joe's record - but they soon will find out if he becomes the nominee . The Trump Campaign is poised and ready to strike ... .African- Americans will be shocked to their core when Trump's campaign informs them of Biden's key role in getting the Infamous Crime Bill passed into law They will also be reminded of Joe's treatment of Anita Hill during the Clarence Thomas Senate Confirmation Hearings This is not a replay of 2016 ...Hillary was tough , poised and demonstrated a far superior temperament than Joe has shown thus far on the Campaign trail .Millions of women desperately wanted to see the Election of a woman to the Highest Office .This is not a replay of 2016 ...It will be far worse .

(27,835 posts)In politics, perception is everything. And the perception of Joe is that he represents the stability of the no-drama-Obama years, which appeals more and more to a populace that is fed-up with the never-ending scandals-de-jour theyve been living with for the past three years.
After eight years as VP, Joes been there, done that. Hes dealt with domestic policy and foreign policy. He is well-respected by our allies. He is seen as a voice of reason as opposed to the narcissistic, self-serving idiot they are currently forced to deal with.
I am a Biden supporter and I am not saying that there are other Democratic candidates who arent up to the job. But you cant deny that Joe has an edge when it comes to the perception of voters who see him as having WH experience, and the perception that the country was stable and scandal-free at the time he was in office.
The GOP knows this. They know that the publics perception of Joe is far more positive than negative. That makes Joe an opponent who must be taken down before November.

He would have to compete on ability and ideas which are the areas he's totally ill equipped to deal with.

(151,557 posts)That's why. He is entirely the opposite of Donald J. Trump. In his demeanor, integrity, and speech, he represents something that is precisely contradictory to Trump.
That is his strongest characteristic. That is what will make him the obvious choice to a wide range of voters in November. And November is all that matters, to be quite frank.
