Desperate DNC members consider rule change to let superdelegates vote on 1st ballot to stop Sanders. If the DNC rigs another election against its voters, itll be asking for biggest #DemExit yet by those who want an actually democratic party. #DNCRigging

(4,341 posts)This is another time when the DNC and Democrats need to adhere to reality and learn from 2016. This push against Sanders will only hurt Democrats come November. In 2016 too many of Sanders supporters stayed home and did not vote, they felt the DNC had played a foul game against them, and we have to admit they did, Democrats should not make that mistake again, let the chips fall where they may and if Sanders is to become the nominee then lets put all our efforts behind the candidate.
I ask all of you, what is more important, that your favourite candidate wins or that we get trump and the crooks from the GOP out of office and indicted afterwards? I believe our goal MUST BE to get rid of the crooks, and to do that we need to allow the majority of Democrats to elect who will represent us in November. It is not your favouritism that will determine the outcome in November, it is the majority of Democratic voters that matters. Yes, fight for your favourite candidate, but don't trash the other Democratic candidates to try to make points for yours.
We need to stop the hypocrisy of applauding for people we regularly do not like, but if they say or have anything that aligns with our beliefs then all is good, but if it doesn't align with our beliefs we want to dismiss it, even when its true, and this time Jill Stein is 100% correct.
I hope Democrats do not make the same mistake, the support for Sanders is huge and it cannot be ignored, it could make or break the outcome. We have to understand that many times passions cloud reasoning and logic, and if Sanders' supporters feel cheated and disenfranchised I am afraid their passion will take over their reasoning and we, Democrats, will suffer the consequences.
Correct, nobody asked her anything, but don't turn good advise away just because you don't like the messenger. Stop, take a deep breath, listen to the message, analyze the message, if the message is right then act on it, don't dismiss it.

[link:https://www.npr.org/2017/08/24/545812242/1-in-10-sanders-primary-voters-ended-up-supporting-trump-survey-finds|
<snip>Schaffner's numbers show that after a bitter Democratic primary, more than 1 in 10 of those who voted in the primaries for the very progressive Sanders ended up voting for the Republican in the general election, rather than for the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton.
And this:
"WHY SOME OF BERNIE SANDERSS SUPPORTERS ARE ANGRY"
[link:https://www.newyorker.com/news/john-cassidy/why-some-of-bernie-sanderss-supporters-are-angry|
<snip>Taken individually, these two developments merely confirmed what was already evident: that the D.N.C. had been acting as an extension of the Clinton campaign, and that Clinton is a risk-averse moderate who feels comfortable with like-minded individuals. Coming as close together as they did, though, the two stories conveyed a more combustible messageto some Sanders supporters, at least.
Keep making Sanders supporters angry and you will give votes to trump. You may not like Jill Stein, and I don't, but her message is right.

(4,341 posts)The facts are there, whether you want to call it a conspiracy or not, the facts are clear. The DNC in 2016 changed the rules, Sanders' supporters felt the changes were targeted against their candidate and in favour of Hillary. Whether she had the votes or not is irrelevant, the effect was very negative to Democrats in November of 2016, and I am hoping the same does not repeat this year.
This is definitely an election Democrats should win, unless they screw it up themselves, and one of those screw ups would be disenfranchising Sanders' supporters, that is a huge number of Democrats who would not be happy and could make a big difference in the outcome in November.
We need to face the facts to make sure the same doesn't happen by expressing our thoughts to the powers that be to make sure they don't do anything stupid again.
Hiding our heads in the sand won't stop the machete from hitting us on the neck.

But forgetting that, the negative campaign against Bernie Sanders that is going on, including here in DU, will have a very negative effect come November as it did in 2016. We are all Democrats, that includes Sanders' supporters, we must be united, we must treat our differences with politically correctness and avoid vilifying our Democratic candidates because that will create divisions and anger, how can that be good for the party?

What you have are delegates, who may or may not reflect the second choices of the actual voter. Its a guess. And the result of that guesswork will be divisive.
The winner of the most delegates has always won. The supers have never changed that outcome. We shouldnt start now.
I didnt like it when Clinton floated the idea in 2008.

(15,635 posts)one iota. Your analysis and perspective on this are spot on. We will repeat 2016 if the DNC reverses the rules change on superdelegates they made following 2016. In my view, the party will lose all credibility if they do that. We might also lose more disenfranchised would be Dem voters than we did in 2016. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to see and understand this. It does take a controlling mindset however to deny and ignore it.

(15,635 posts)the rule change made after 2016 to instead ALLOW superdelegates to vote on the first ballot, i.e., just like in 2016. While superdelegates didnt matter ultimately in 2016 because Hillary actually captured enough delegates via popular votes to win the nomination, it could and likely would matter this year; which is exactly why some members of the DNC are proposing it.
If you think theres a rift in the party now, make that rule change in the convention and watch what happens.

So, hey, you know what they were pissed about in 2016 so how about you don't just double down on that shit in 2020? Maybe that? Many people on this board will jump at you very hard if you say one little negative thing about their candidate, imagine how Sanders' supporters will feel if this year too they feel the DNC and the Democratic party has acted against their candidate.
Passions are stronger than logic many time, and I would hope that those trying to kill the messenger realize that is exactly what they are doing, they are acting out of passion not taking the time to READ the message. Forget who sent the message for a couple of minutes, imagine it is Obama who sent it, and you will realize the message is spot on.
