I can't believe anyone is defending HRC's "nobody likes him" attack on Bernie.

Look, it was obviously not good for her to say that. It hurts party unity and also makes her look petty.

This doesn't mean Hillary is a horrible person, it just means she made a bad call when she said that. It's not necessary to defend every mistake a person makes in order to hold that person in high regard.

People make mistakes. This was one of Hillary's. She's still a great Democrat, but like every other great Democrat, she makes mistakes.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

Today, Common Cause filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) alleging reason to believe that Our Revolution, a nonprofit political organization established by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in 2016 and now supporting his 2020 presidential campaign, violated the federal ‘soft money’ ban. Sen. Sanders has been a longtime critic of super PACs and so-called “Dark Money” groups. The complaint documents that Our Revolution has solicited contributions explicitly to elect Sanders president, received contributions far in excess of the applicable $5,000 contribution limit and spent funds in connection with federal elections, including current voter mobilization efforts supporting Sanders in Iowa.

Under the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, an entity directly or indirectly established by a federal candidate or officeholder is not allowed to “solicit, receive, direct, transfer, or spend funds in connection with an election for Federal office” unless the “funds are subject to the limitations, prohibitions, and reporting requirements” of federal law.

According to Our Revolution’s tax returns showing contribution amounts but not contributor names, data compiled and first reported by the Associated Press, from 2016 to 2018 Our Revolution raised almost $1 million dollars from contributors who gave in excess of the applicable $5,000 contribution limit, including multiple contributions of between $100,000 and $300,000. Our Revolution has not disclosed any of its contributors to the FEC, as required by federal campaign finance law.

Moreover, Hillary doesn't call reporters. Reporters call her. She is a well-respected and admired former first lady, former senator, former SOS and former nominee of the Democratic party for POTUS.

She deserves far more respect than she is given by Sanders supporters. She remains immensely popular in Democratic circles.

Sanders supporters and campaign would be better off just saying "I/we disagree with Secretary Clinton's assessment" and move on instead of continuing to whine incessantly. It is not a good look. If you can't handle Hillary, how will you handle republicans or hostile foreign leaders?

I think it's possible that when she made the comment, she had no idea exactly how bad things would get with Trump as POTUS. I know I am walking around a weird mix of stunned and unsurprised by it.
That said, a sensationalist project such as that documentary is the exact model of infotainment has been a toxic force that helped Trump gain popularity. Not committing to supporting Bernie if he gets the nomination didn't go over very well either, though she corrected that in a tweet later.

In the doc, you're brutally honest on Sanders: "He was in Congress for years. He had one senator support him. Nobody likes him, nobody wants to work with him, he got nothing done. He was a career politician. It's all just baloney and I feel so bad that people got sucked into it." That assessment still hold?

Yes, it does.

If he gets the nomination, will you endorse and campaign for him?

I'm not going to go there yet. We're still in a very vigorous primary season. I will say, however, that it's not only him, it's the culture around him. It's his leadership team. It's his prominent supporters. It's his online Bernie Bros and their relentless attacks on lots of his competitors, particularly the women. And I really hope people are paying attention to that because it should be worrisome that he has permitted this culture — not only permitted, [he] seems to really be very much supporting it. And I don't think we want to go down that road again where you campaign by insult and attack and maybe you try to get some distance from it, but you either don't know what your campaign and supporters are doing or you're just giving them a wink and you want them to go after Kamala [Harris] or after Elizabeth [Warren]. I think that that's a pattern that people should take into account when they make their decisions.

So hear we are again, jogging the memories of the Hillary hating independents who held their noses and voted for Trump, Jill Stein or just stayed home. The attention she gets just riles up the Bernie or Bust-ers. Bernie's not going to shut up, because he's running. She may be able to hurt some people, but she CANNOT HELP ANYONE.

And so Sanders is power now? From what I read on here, he doesn't have any chance of winning anything. So, by that logic, she's punching down. Which is a Republican tactic. You can't have it both ways. Sanders can't both be hopeless and power. Pick one. And stick with that one.

So you agree that demands that she should SHUT UP and go away are ridiculous?

And more than a little sexist with the "she should take up knitting" type insults, because women past their appeal to young white men are supposed to disappear.

Nevertheless she persists, and speaks truth to power. Candidates running for POTUS shouldn't expect their colleagues, former and current, to be restricted to speaking only that which flatters them. If a candidate can't survive honest reports of their relevant personal working style, they really shouldn't be running.

She was selected most admired woman in the world for 20 years running, has led an amazing life, with a unique and valuable first hand perspective on a historic stolen election, and journalists and historians want to interview her.

That really piques some men, apparently.

The OUTRAGE that she talks about her time in the Senate, and about her 2016 campaign opponent is really ironic considering that her opponent became part of the 1% off writing and selling a book about the 2016 campaign in which he complained about her.

But maybe you can tell me how many of Sanders' Senate colleagues have rushed to his defense to say what HRC said in that interview is wrong.

Perhaps it's Bernie that needs those advisors...

A petty fight would be sending out surrogates to attack someone who once talked about them in a way that's been supported in fact, after becoming a millionaire writing a book that complained about the other person, wouldn't it?

Or calling someone else 'silly' for 'talking about' a previous election when one wrote an entire book about said election, and being less than complimentary about said election.

Bad optics indeed.

But you didn't say if you've heard any of Sanders' Senate colleagues coming out and saying that HRC was wrong about what she said.

178. Some politicians refer to their own expediency as correcting course, or evolving,

but everyone else is incapable of the same, with change only indicating corrupt pandering, or "imitating what they have always said."

Such a politician never admits that they have ever made any mistakes, claiming only that they "didn't know" something was going on, even in their own campaign, when such a politician takes pride themselves on being in control of everything in their campaign.

And I will defend HRC's right to speak the truth.

Sorry that you don't like it, but that's just how it is.

And when they learn it is, then they should start learning more about why the real Bernie Sanders is so disliked and ineffective in office.

Or take a huge clue and move on to other choices.

(Amazement that partisan reaction isn't stronger could come later, DanTex.)

“He’s a man who never has accomplished anything in public office, who has I believe demonstrated his inability to forge a governing consensus, let alone hold a governing consensus. And I think he’d be an awful choice as our party’s nominee.” ~ Progressive Governor Martin O'Malley

So proper and professionally restrained. If only we could hear the Sanders stories colleagues trade in private. The video of Sanders boorishly knocking 80+-year-old Senator Feinstein aside on the senate floor and her swatting at him in response comes to mind. She obviously wasn't surprised by him, but it'd be nice to know what was behind Sanders' current pique of temper and contempt or if that was his normal.

She did NOT say that nobody in the country likes him. She stated that he doesn't really get along with others in the Senate. If you disagree with that, fine, but let's stop inferring that she ever said nobody in the country likes him. She did not.
