Who will win New Hampshire? Unsure Democratic voters are watching Iowa with an eye on beating Trump

SALEM, N.H. — Waiting for autographs after a Joe Biden event in this town near the New Hampshire-Massachusetts border, Liz Duck and Katy Kramer kept returning to the same word to explain their support for the former vice president: electability.

The two Democrats, friends both in their 70s, sing together in a community choir in the Manchester area, but on this day in late January they sounded like regular political pundits as they sized up the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.

Their conclusion: Biden, who they just saw speak to a couple hundred supporters packed inside a small elementary school gym, gives Democrats the best shot to beat President Donald Trump. And Sen. Bernie Sanders, the candidate many call the frontrunner to win the Granite State? Too far to the left.

"I'm looking at electability," said Kramer, a college writing instructor. She touted Biden's experience before pivoting to the democratic socialist from Vermont. &quot Sanders is) progressive. I like what all those people are saying. I really do," But she added: "If you want someone who is, I think electable," then Biden is your guy.

Same with Iowa in my opinion. But surprises are not unusual

If he takes iowa like polls are saying he will, he will easily take nevada and new hampshire. But damn, Iowa is carrying my heart in its hands right now. And depending on how South Carolina goes -if it moves substantially in Bernie's direction, this could be decided before March.

It’s perfect Bernie territory, and caucuses have been good to him previously. Nevada worries me more, but I f he can get Iowa and NH under his belt then he should be ok. SC is the big test for me. If the new polling is true then it could leave him in a super position heading into Super Tuesday. If not, well it’s going to be a tough ride.

Whoever wins iowa and nh will come out of it with a single digit delegate lead, if that.

It means exactly squat to who can win either the primary or ge.

SC alone will wipe out any lead gained in both iowa and nh. And super tuesday will dwarf that.

They dont mean anything.

Bad early performances can wipe out a candidates momentum, and strong showings give a big free publicity boost.

But not a strong one. Not every candidate will do well in a caucus environment. But from a delegate count it means nothing and overall influences few people who have already decided.

It isn't going to swing nervous voters from a solid candidate.

Plenty of nominees have lost iowa and/or nh.
