Democratic Primaries

That's not an endorsement, just an observation. He also is a self made man, as self made as one can be in an interconnected society. As an aside Chump would burn his money if he had Bloomberg's.

(130,533 posts)Where's his legislative and foreign policy experience? He's a rich guy who was a mayor. He wouldn't suck as bad as Trump (or Bernie, for that matter), but apart from having a shit-ton of money and the ability to buy effective ads, I don't see much about him that would make me want to vote for him over Biden (or Warren or Buttigieg).

(31,155 posts)All the things Trump supporters like to tout about Trump he has done MUCH better than Trump. And Trump is NOT self made at all. His daddy handed him his wealth and he has done poorly with it. But like Biden he will appeal to Social Democrats and moderates.

(6,154 posts)While my preference would be Biden/Klobachar, Biden/Bloomberg didn't look too shabby. The Killer B's. Plus Mike would throw $$$billions$$$ of his own money into the effort.
Just passing thoughts at this point, but anything can happen.

(151,268 posts)Anybody would, but he's a little too close to the center right than the center left, as far as I'm concerned. He's pretty good with platitudes in his ads, but very short on details. He's running a non-specific sort of campaign that is not reassuring to me in terms of progress down the road.
On the other hand, Bernie Sanders goes way too far toward offering things he can't possibly deliver. He knows he can't deliver them, too. So, I see his campaign as full of false promises. I absolutely believe that Sanders would lose in a General Election against Trump. There is just too much "He's a Socialist" fodder that can be used against him. I don't see him even coming close to winning, and another Trump term would be an absolute disaster.
Elizabeth Warren, too, goes too far with her proposals, in terms of feasibility, but she at least is honest about their cost. She also knows she can't deliver on those proposals, but is honest about them, at least. I don't see her as a finalist at the convention, anyhow.
Joe Biden doesn't make a lot of specific promises, because he recognizes that what is possible depends on how Congress looks. He has goals for progress, and has a large goal of undoing the harm Trump has done. I think he can accomplish that, actually. I think he can probably rescue and build on the ACA and maybe even lower the age of eligibility for Medicare during his first term. I'm sure he can reassure our friendly allies about the direction we'll be taking, and warn off our unfriendly ones. I think Biden would beat Trump, with the help of votes from even some Republican voters. Trump is just that horrible.
The rest of the field, and including Bloomberg, I'm not all that concerned about. I don't think any of them will become the nominee, so I'm not spending much time thinking about them. I feel much the same about Warren. Bernie, though, worries me, not because I think he can win the nomination, but because I think there may well be a backlash from his supporters when he fails to do so. That is really my largest concern for the General Election. We need every vote we can get to override attempts to manipulate the results.

(14,565 posts)He realizes we have to rescue some of the white male vote that has been trending away. It is such a massive influential voting block that we forfeit all margin for error if we continue to slide in that category, especially in the key midwestern states that don't have high number of Hispanics.
Bloomberg ads have been all over the televised programs that white males watch. I have seen if for more than a month. Today I was watching an obscure college basketball game between Miami and Pittsburgh on the ACC Network. Mike Bloomberg bombarded that game with effective commercials. And they were not the same one every time. Great variance.
I appreciate this type of thing because for so long it stands out to me that we try to win on issues and have no clue that so many people don't vote based on issues. The swing voters have to view you as effective and strong, regardless if they know anything about your policies.
I mentioned here two months ago that when I rode a shuttle bus in Naples during an LPGA golf tournament I was amazed that the old white people on that shuttle bus were in loud agreement that the only two Democrats they would consider above Trump were Biden and Bloomberg. That really opened my eyes. The other Democrats were dismissed as, "too far out there," meaning overly liberal.
I do worry about his height, per the other thread. That is absolutely the one concern. If he walks out there to shake Trump's hand during a debate there is going to be a shocking visual regarding the stature difference between the two men. That type of thing influences votes, whether we prefer to believe it or not.
