COLUMBIA Joe Bidens hold atop South Carolina Democratic presidential primary polls has never wavered over nearly a year.
But the former vice presidents lead continues to slide with the Souths first primary just under a month away.
Biden, who once led by as much as 31 percentage points in South Carolina, holds a 5-point edge over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the latest Post and Courier-Change Research poll released Sunday. Biden sits at 25 percent to Sanders 20 percent.

Sanders has taken leads in Iowa and New Hampshire with Warren and Buttigieg joining Biden to round out the top four leaders. Iowa voters head to their caucus Monday. New Hampshire holds its primary on Feb. 11.

(67,782 posts)....been above 20 in any poll except the Post and Courier.
To give everyone an idea of the credibility of this poll, they say "Biden, who once led by as much as 31 percentage points in South Carolina....", that was way back in the first week of May, just days after Biden announced his candidacy.
RCP still has Biden up 30.5-17.0 (+13.5) and 538 still has Biden up 34.1-16.4 (+17.7).
No worries for the Biden camp, but who should be worried is the Sanders campaign, Steyer is nipping at his heels.
Wonder why the Post and Courier headline mentions Steyer but the selected excerpts don't mention him at all? Perhaps because in the previous P&C poll he was 15 points behind Sanders and now is a mere 2 points behind him. THAT is a "surge".
