What Bloomberg is doing right, and what all our candidates need to do

Focusing like a laser beam on Trump.

Every ad, every speech.... the candidates should be attacking Trump. That's how we win.

ALL of our candidates are close on all the big issues... they all want to expand healthcare coverage, they all want to tax the rich, they all want worker protections, higher minimum wage, and no more kids in cages. They all will appoint sane liberal judges.

The differences between our left-most candidates and our right-most candidates is miniscule compared to the difference between our candidates and Trump.

Bloomberg gets that the focus needs to be on Trump. Whittle away his support in the middle... make them embarrassed to vote for Trump.

Everybody left of center who votes is already againat Trump. Elections are won by the side that captures the middle.

I think Bloomberg would not even be in the top 4 among our candidates as far as who would make the best President.

But his team makes the best ads, and has the bullseye in the right place.

The majority of Americans don't want a "revolution"... they just want Trump gone. That's the ethos of this election season.

1. We should not allow Trump to suggest the economy is so great
Mon Feb 3, 2020, 12:48 AM
Feb 2020

That needs to be tackled point by point by showing Obama had more growth, Obama was the one who brought down unemployment from 10% to 4.5% (Trump has only dropped it by 1%). Job growth was higher under Obama. Then nail Trump on the deficit, income growth, shrinking middle class, skyrocketing costs for HC and College etc. We should nail him on the trade deficit which is WORSE under Trump and all the farmers getting killed by his stupid trade war.

2. Even though all of that is true...

...the economy is good enough for most Americans that promising an economic "revolution" is a losing tact this time around.

In none of the purple states we need to win will this sell.

Yes, it sells among the 18-35 set .. but they will have half the turnout of the 35 and over set, in a GOOD year.

You have to go, ideologically, where the voters are.... and they aren't with Bernie (or even Liz).

The voters will accept a classic liberal .. but not a far left liberal.

There is no appetite for that among 60% or more of the voting population. There just isn't.

4. Half of the people who say Sanders in GE polls don't know...
Mon Feb 3, 2020, 01:06 AM
Feb 2020

... that he is a socialist.

And half of the ones that do, don't realize how unpopular it will be once the GOP and their PACs focus their guns on Bernie's history.

Right now, the GOP and Trumpers are pumping Bernie up.... but the minute he gets the nomination, we are done...unless a 2008style economic collapse comes.

In the states that matter..... PA, OH, FL, VA, etc..... Bernie would struggle to get to 45% in a general election.

In every purple district where a far left candidate ran in 2018, they lost.

It sells with 40% of the population...but we need a majority.

6. Out of the blue, the last three days, I have heard two talking about Bloomberg.

I do not talk politics with a lot of people, so that was surprising to have two ask me what I think. One is a young man that is not interested in the Sanders brohaha. The other is an older woman, and it surprised me. Solid Democrat. I figured she would go Warren.

taken up, though he was mightily mocked here for it. He has also drawn the big picture rather than tied himself exclusively to policy stances. The big picture is that “America is an idea,” the most big and bold, Trump threatens Democracy here and abroad, and Americans must unify to protect it. Personally, I think Biden has had the best ads as theater, theme, and a vehicle to convey his readiness for office, his unmatched and job-specific qualifications.

Glad to see Bloomberg in,
