Bernie Sanders's foreign policy is a risk for Democrats against Trump

trump would have fun with this

One issue involves Sanders’s stance toward the former Soviet Union, a record that could undercut Democrats’ ability to criticize Trump for being too close to Russia today.

The documents from the Sanders archives include a letter from Soviet Embassy First Secretary Vadim Kuznetsov in March 1983, congratulating Sanders on his reelection as mayor and thanking Sanders for receiving him in Sanders’s office. Kuznetsov had been in Burlington to attend a conference on nuclear disarmament at the University of Vermont a few days earlier. Neither Sanders nor conference organizers appear to have read a 1976 Time magazine article that identified Kuznetsov as a member of a “Soviet intelligence squad” posing as diplomats to infiltrate U.S. politics.

In 1988, Sanders traveled to the Soviet Union on his honeymoon and forged a “sister city” cooperation program there. Many believe he gave a rosy depiction of conditions there just a few years before the communist system collapsed.

More stories coming out about Bernie Sanders every day. If it was just one or two, I wouldn't take it too seriously, but now its becoming clear that Bernie wasn't really vetted in 2016. All the focus was on Hillary, because it was assumed that Bernie couldn't win the nomination.

This is a part of Bernie I wasn't familiar with. I knew him primarily from "Breakfast with Bernie" on the radio. Though I appreciated his ideas, I never really thought he was a good prospect for president. Now I'm not sure who he is, certainly not the person I thought he was.

sanders is a very weak candidate and would be easy for trump to destroy. In addition to the well written 101 page memorandum with oppo on sanders with a 1000 pages of backup from the Clinton campaign trump has his own oppo file on sanders that would destroy such a weak and divisive candidate like sanders.

trump had a two foot thick book of oppo research on Sanders http://www.newsweek.com/myths-cost-democrats-presidential-election-521044

They ignored the fact that Sanders had not yet faced a real campaign against him. Clinton was in the delicate position of dealing with a large portion of voters who treated Sanders more like the Messiah than just another candidate. She was playing the long game—attacking Sanders strongly enough to win, but gently enough to avoid alienating his supporters. Given her overwhelming support from communities of color—for example, about 70 percent of African-American voters cast their ballot for her—Clinton had a firewall that would be difficult for Sanders to breach....

So what would have happened when Sanders hit a real opponent, someone who did not care about alienating the young college voters in his base? I have seen the opposition book assembled by Republicans for Sanders, and it was brutal. The Republicans would have torn him apart. And while Sanders supporters might delude themselves into believing that they could have defended him against all of this, there is a name for politicians who play defense all the time: losers....

The Republicans had at least four other damning Sanders videos (I don’t know what they showed), and the opposition research folder was almost 2-feet thick. (The section calling him a communist with connections to Castro alone would have cost him Florida.) In other words, the belief that Sanders would have walked into the White House based on polls taken before anyone really attacked him is a delusion built on a scaffolding of political ignorance.

sanders was such a weak primary candidate that the Clinton campaign did not use its oppo but trump would have fun destroying such a weak candidate like sanders

"She was playing the long game—attacking Sanders strongly enough to win, but gently enough to avoid alienating his supporters." Clearly republicans would not attack him "gently" if he won the nomination.

Thanks for the oppo research. I've gotten into it with a couple of Bernie supporters on Facebook and clearly a lot of people don't know all that much about him.

There is a ton of good material in that memorandum but there is a ton of stuff that would be best used in a general election by trump such as the Russia material. sanders is a very weak candidate who would be destroyed easily by trump

And lets face it, until the 2016 primary, he had only run in a state with 626,000 people. Before congress, he was mayor of a city of about 40,000 people. I think all the big crowds went to his head, he was never prepared for a nationwide campaign.

Yeah...5 jobs in 16 years. 3 self employed. 2 part time. Except for his home address provided for job 5, no addresses. No start from. No end at. No specific dates. Just a string of years spanning from Dancing in the Streets to Hit Me With Your Best Shot. Sixteen years, eight words. Zero references. Highschoolers have more extensive resumes. More professional too. This is crap.

Read this article and see how many times people say 'I don't know.' Don't know about how he gets money. Don't know about how he survives. Even Bernie says it. Only two jobs that could have paid into the system and he says 'I don't know' when he was asked which covered his unemployment checks.'

No questions could be asked either. Personal life was off limits. A public official with an off limits personal life.

Never vetted Bernie Sanders, Yes, lets vote for him.
