Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIf we're going to debate the Iowa fiasco, let's debate ACCURATELY...
1. There were paper ballots
2. There was a paper reporting trail
3. The problem was in reporting three sets of results (developed by challenges to the results in 2016) to the State Party.

(6,113 posts)What if the problem isn't in the program per se but in its data validation checks rejecting inconsistent data? For example, if the reported second round totals and delegate counts do not flow from the first round counts?

(37,364 posts)shows original alignment . Yellow side shows realignment if original candidate choice was not viable. Yellow side also has a box for checking that the person did not want to choose any other candidate. All ballots were signed by the voters.
Viability threshold is determined by total number of precinct participants x 15%. In this precinct, a candidate required 38 supporters to be viable. At first alignment, Klobuchar, Biden, Buttegieg, and Warren met the threshold and were viable. Sanders and Yang, the only other candidates with supporters present, did not. There were no undecided people at first alignment.
Realignment allowed for Sanders and Yang supporters to close another candidate if they desired to do so. Here 30 of them chose to realign with other candidates. Of the 11 who didn't choose another candidate, six Sanders people and five Yang people chose no other candidate. All of this can be verified by counting the paper ballots. The work sheet must be verified by the signatures of the precinct captains of all viable candidates and that of the precinct chair.
The number of delegates allotted each candidate is then calculated by multiplying the final number of a candidate's supporters by the number of delegates allowed the precinct and dividing by total attendees. Delegates and an alternate are nominated and voted for from within each group. Delegates attend the county convention in a few weeks to begin work on platform proposals and select delegates for the state convention. Delegate attendance is important. In 2016, Sanders carried our precinct by a few votes but some of his delegates didn't show up at county. Hillary picked up some delegates at County.

(37,364 posts)It wasn't a counting problem but a fairly simple transmission of data issue.

(1,584 posts)Signatures mean nothing with all of those scratched out and rewritten numbers. Do they not have the technological capability to fill out a clean form for final signatures and submission?
