(CNN)The mobile app that has apparently caused issues during the Iowa caucuses is due to be used in the Nevada Democratic caucuses later this month, a person familiar with the app told CNN.
Snip
App failures during the caucuses
One precinct chair in Iowa describing the failure of the app, saying that the app got stuck on the very last step when reporting results, which was uploading a picture of the precinct's results.
The chair said they were finally able to upload and screenshotted what they uploaded. Then the app showed different numbers than what they had submitted as captured in their screenshot.

(23,097 posts)The test failed totally! There is still a major crisis, and if NV goes this route - a mounting crisis and demonstration of Dem failures to be able to count votes accurately.

(15,715 posts)The servers could not handle the influx of images. It takes bandwidth and database space and server power to save and process that many images coming in around the same time.

(3,855 posts)It seems really unlikely a former Clinton campaign guy wanted the results that happened.
In any case, we have a paper trail so we can match what the app says versus what people wrote down.

(15,715 posts)that worries me. It kind of indicates that it was supposed to "massage" the numbers in the app to favor a specific candidate over others.

(11,769 posts)No official plan B for an untested app? If true, also odd and what possible excuse would there be for that sort of incompetence? My other concern is voter turnout was much lower than I'd expected. A huge amount of money, time and effort was poured into Iowa by our candidates, staff and volunteers, for a return of such low result. Keeping my fingers crossed, Iowa is not a sign of things to come.
On the plus side, maybe the caucus system will either have huge improvements, or be tossed. Pretty bright spotlight on the flaws.

(2,706 posts)For every election. Even though we use voting machines, the machine prints out a paper record. And there are paper ballots on site as further backup.
