Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumQuick question about Bloomberg and what it means to be a Democrat.
Let's just say by some Moses parting the Red Sea type of miracle that Mike Bloomberg is able to buy enough votes and juice to become our party's nominee. Will anyone here ever be able to point out to reTHugs with a straight face that theirs is the party of the rich, corrupt pre-purchased elections, selfishness and corporate avarice? I know I certainly wouldn't be able to. After all, ole' Bloomy is the consummate one-percenter. In fact, he's the one-percenter that other one-percenters look up to in order to learn how to be a better, more efficient one-percenter.
I generally take issue with anyone who floats the old canard about both party's being identical. However, if the day should ever come when Michael Bloomberg can just buy his way into our party's presidential nomination, that statement will then be literally true, and those who truly believe that we as Democrats stand for something infinitely better than gross corporate greed and predatory capitalism will officially be without a political party.

(94,333 posts)He's preparing policy positions, making speeches and running ads. He may participate in debates. Sounds like a campaign to me.
FWIW - Isn't it fascinating that none of this anger was directed at Steyer?

(1,773 posts)The Democratic Party is the party of the people. In the purest sense, Bernie is the most Democratic of all the candidates, and certainly a far better representative of our core values as Democrats than some imperious, multi-billionnaire, corporate emperor.

(48,910 posts)His ads are the reason he's rising rapidly in many polls, in third place in at least one.
His ads attack Trump -- which helps ALL Democrats -- and focus on his own record and agenda.
I've seen a lot of positive comments on his ads here, and no complaints suggesting any of them are dishonest.
And btw, he isn't offering potential voters possible 5- and 6-figure financial windfalls through tax-free debt forgiveness. He isn't offering that sort of financial inducement to vote for him.

I'll admit, it's not like getting post offices renamed, but it's still pretty good.

(2,897 posts)All candidates are spending more than most Americans make in a year to further their political career. Let's not pretend a candidate spending 10 mil on ads isn't attempting to do the same thing as the guy spending 100mil.
No one has taken a pledge to limit their spending and most would gladly drop Steyer/Bloomberg money if they had it. Stop this nonsense.

(628 posts)Biden is not a strong candidate (sorry but its true) and everyone was banking on him. But Biden is losing support or confidence in him.
Bloomberg could be the answer to a lot of those peoples concerns. That could get Bloomberg the nomination of the party. I do not think because the way this played out that it changes anything to be a Democrat.
I mean Bernie isn't a Democrat yet what does that say about the party if he wins?
I personally think Pete is the answer but we will see if he catches on.
All I know is when it comes to PA I'm looking at who has best chance to beat Biden out and I'm voting for them. I hope its Pete but if its Bernie, Bloomberg, Warren I will be voting for them. I do not think Biden can beat Trump. I hate saying that but I just do not.

(10,885 posts)Trump is very intimidated by Bloomberg and his money. I like that Bloomberg is the billionaire Trump can only dream about becoming.
Do I agree with Bloomberg's policies? Not 100%. He's not my first choice in the primary. However, I am voting on exactly one issue this year - getting rid of every single Republican in office, including Trump. Blue no matter who. So, while I don't support his policies 100%, if Bloomberg is the nominee, I will support his campaign 100%.
