Both Bernie and Pete declared victory last night.... only one of them is right

Though I guess technically, they both could be right.... One could've won the "first vote" and one could have won the "realigned vote".

But it is likely one of them will have egg on their face.

If Pete won... the Bernie campaign will scream "rigged!". If Bernie won... the Bernie campaign will STILL scream "rigged!".

It wasn't "rigged". Stop that shit now. It was a snafu, but the final results will be accurate - thanks to a paper trail.

1. Bernie's campaign expressed confidence about last night and said they did very well, but...
Tue Feb 4, 2020, 02:00 PM
Feb 2020

...they didn't outright claim victory like the Buttigieg campaign. Internal data shows Bernie's campaign leading with 40% of the precincts reported, but there's obviously plenty left to report which could change the outcome. We won't know until the full results are reported, which apparently won't be today.

5. No, a report was spun that way.
Tue Feb 4, 2020, 02:05 PM
Feb 2020

What the report said was that multiple campaigns might try to spin the results, which were going to be reported three different ways:

1. First alignment.
2. Final alignment.
3. Delegates awarded.

The report did not specify which campaigns would do what exactly.

And then demanded they stop saying it. Which they haven’t actually done yet.

It’s full of trolls, bots, repukes trying to get a rise out of us, and so on and so forth. Most of them aren’t real supporters, they’re just out to get a reaction. Don’t give them free satisfaction.

10. Judging from a damn near half decade of Sanders supporters behavior...
Tue Feb 4, 2020, 02:20 PM
Feb 2020

...you can rest assured that the original poster is correct in predicting what Sanders supporters will say.

If Sanders loses, they will claim it was rigged. If Sanders wins, they will claim it was rigged to take the wind out of his sails from winning.

You can take that to the bank.

The difference between what Bernie supporters are supposedly like (according to people who see all the trolls on Twitter) and what his real supporters are actually like is worlds apart.

You will see it right here on DU -- hell, thinking back, I think we have seen those exact arguments I listed already being made last night on here.

If you are one of the few (only?) Sanders supporters that have never pushed a """rigged!!1!""" narrative, it's nice to meet you.

15. Where exactly did Bernie claim victory?
Tue Feb 4, 2020, 02:27 PM
Feb 2020

He didn't declare victory. He expressed confidence based on internal numbers.

Because this is the email I received from his campaign:

Last night was a bad night for democracy, for the Democratic Party, and for the people of Iowa.

But because you have done so much for this campaign, and in the interest of full transparency as we wait for the Iowa Democratic Party to release results, we want to share the numbers that we have at this moment:

As a result of an extraordinary grassroots campaign, fueled by thousands of volunteers who knocked on hundreds of thousands of doors, our internal results sent to us by precinct captains around the state indicate that with almost 50% of the vote in, we have a comfortable lead. Our numbers also show Pete Buttigieg is currently in second, followed by Elizabeth Warren, then Joe Biden and Amy Klobuchar.

Let me reiterate that these are unofficial results, but we wanted to share them to let you know we feel very good about where we are at right now as we head to New Hampshire.

But we need your help to win in New Hampshire, and Bernie cannot do it alone:

Can you make a contribution to our campaign? If we continue to fight, we are not only going to win in New Hampshire, but we are going to win this nomination, defeat Donald Trump, and transform this country
