There are a total of almost 4000 delegates for the Democratic nomination...

...and just 41 of them come from Iowa.

That's about 1%.

Candidates should just ignore Iowa in the future and pretend it doesn't exist for the nomination. They have about the same impact, delegate-wise, as Puerto Rico or Guam.

BTW, I must compliment your chosen candidate on how she conducted herself last night. Of all the candidates we have, I must say she was absolutely the MOST presidential in light of the debacle. It's that sort of calm during a storm I want to have access to the "football".

and the so the media make it out to be a bellwether, which it really isn’t because Iowa’ caucuses don’t even represent Iowa. But the candidates are stuck with having to pour enormous resources into it even though the very best they can get from it is 41 delegates. And the illusion of being the front runner, at least until there are meaningful primaries.

However, you're quite right, and Biden already leads the unpledged delegate tally by more than the number of pledged delegates from Iowa.

Superdelegates have no role until and unless no candidate gets 1990 on first ballot.
