Iowa Republicans Reynolds, Grassley, Ernst defend Democratic caucuses

Iowa's Republican leadership defended the Democratic caucuses Tuesday, saying the caucus process "is not suffering because of a short delay in knowing the final results."

Gov. Kim Reynolds and U.S. Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst released the joint statement more than 12 hours after caucusing began. No results from the Iowa caucuses have been reported as of 8:30 a.m. CST.

"Iowa's bipartisan first-in-the-nation status helped lead to the nomination of President Obama and has the full backing of President Trump," the statement reads. " ... Iowans and all Americans should know we have complete confidence that every last vote will be counted and every last voice will be heard.

"We look forward to Iowa carrying on its bipartisan legacy of service in the presidential nominating process."

If Dems say to hell with the Iowa Caucuses, their own party will want to do the same.

The caucuses are a prime tourism cash cow for the state. If they lose that status, revenues across the state will diminish.
