Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIs it me or are Biden supporters really angry at everyone except for Biden
for doing poorly? It seems like Biden supporters are lashing out at Sanders and Sanders supporters quite a bit as if Sanders has somehow undercut him rather than just being someone who is appealing to more people.
I mean, in the end it comes down to the candidate and how they present themselves and who responds to who they are.
And to be honest I have been a fan of Biden for a long time. I wished at the time that Obama had not chosen him to be VP because I thought he was really effective in the Senate, especially with Ted Kennedy still there. But now, to me his age has caught up with him and overtaken him in his speech and his communications and he is just not as effective as he was and that people see that, especially millennials.
Again, I don't know if it's just me but it feels like there is some rage that may be displaced here.

I haven't seen any Biden supporter express anger about how he did; I have seen a shit ton of anger about one of the other campaigns pulling a ratfuck move, and CNN falling for it, but not over the results themselves. The results are what we predicted all along.

"The mentality which is embodied by NBA legend Kobe Bryant and has defined his career and accolades."
I found a quote by Bryant that further expanded upon this:
Mamba mentality is all about focusing on the process and trusting in the hard work when it matters most, he told Amazon Book Review. Its the ultimate mantra for the competitive spirit. It started just as a hashtag that came to me one day, and its grown into something athletes and even non-athletes embrace as a mindset.
Hard work outweighs talent every time, he continued. Mamba mentality is about 4 a.m. workouts, doing more than the next guy and then trusting in the work youve put in when its time to perform. Without studying, preparation and practice, youre leaving the outcome to fate. I dont do fate.

(7,864 posts)Sanders supporters (especially those that aren't really all that into the Democratic Party) seem to think we actual Democrats view other Democratic candidates as some sort of mortal enemies like they do -- but we don't. I have supported Buttigieg, Beto, Warren, and now Biden all at some point during the primary. I have donated to each of those candidates and I think one or two more.
Now, if Sanders supporters think some Biden supporters are angry at Sanders, that is probably true, inasmuch as a lot of actual Democratic supporters are angry at Sanders or other divisive candidates that constantly attack the Democratic Party (e.g., Gabbard).

The GOP feared her and blocked her and now she is the senior Senator from MA and they hate her because she persisted.

Apparently, some of them are now saying Iowa and New Hampshire don't matter (because Biden isn't going to win those states). Apparently, South Carolina is where its at, even though we are probably less likely to win SC in November than either Iowa or NH. I don't see how telling white Midwesterners or New Englanders that their primary/caucus doesn't really count because they are not diverse enough is a winning strategy for November. Seem really f'n stupid to me. For that last point - see post #43 in this thread.

(787 posts)I have been defending Bernie here for a few days even though not my actual candidate this year. He is my second choice. However, I have tried to defend him without reference to other candidates because mostly what I see is Bernie Bashing from lots of long time posters on this site without any courtesy to other parts of the democratic party that like him.
You give a good example. You reference the thread where the Bernie Bash erupted over John King's story. King retracted it eventually because it probably went to far. However, the Thread ignored that, in fact, as a fact, King did not mention Bernie and neither King nor the bash contingent recognized that the story probably came from earlier when the Biden communication director and deputy campaign manager did seemingly question the validity of the Vote on CNN (where King works).
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/live-blog/iowa-caucuses-live-updates-2020-democrats-make-their-final-pitches-n1128596/ncrd1129681#liveBlogHeader
Kate Bedingfield, Biden's deputy campaign manager and communications director, said the campaign has "real concerns about the integrity of the process Tuesday morning during an appearance on CNN.
If you think it was just questioning process, here is the continuation of the article.
The Iowa Democratic has said that their data was "sound" and the delay in the results was not due to a hack or intrusion, rather an abundance of caution to ensure accuracy. They plan to release the results sometime Tuesday.
When asked what reason she has to believe differently than what the Iowa Democratic Party has stated, Bedingfield said, "If you have a process where you can't be confident that the results that are being reported are reflective of the votes that people cast last night and the process, that's a real concern."
This was a CNN interview where John King works so any mistake John King made in Biden's actual plans or responses to Biden's concerns were at CNN not from any other candidate. I do not object to Biden questioning the validity of the results. I have my own ideas of what happened which do not involve the app but the attacks on Bernie are just more attacking him for any reason that a person can manufacture. It is not helpful. It is divisive and increases the disunity in the democratic party.
Correcting John King for a bad report is great. The Biden supporters and the Biden campaign minimizing Iowa and boosting their candidate is politics and fair. However, attacking another candidate that has nothing to do with that report while ignoring the Campaigns own words is divisive. This is similar to the attacks on Bernie for asking for rules to make the caucus more transparent. Who can actually argue with increased transparency? The hands in the air contingent says reporting 10 additional constant numbers (which have already been recorded with a paper trail to consider viability) is incredibly complicated. Reporting consists of at most 16 constant numbers and one result based on 6 constant numbers. All this can be done easily which is why the Democratic Party and with transparency candidates can actually see what happened.
There are tons of other examples.

Warren posters have seemed the most rational/reasonable. I have thought about supporting Biden because he says somethings I like, but when I see the red baiting and the other shit the Biden surrogates here are engaging in, it makes it is really hard for me to make the so-called "safe" choice, especially after I voted the "safe" candidate in 2016 and got burned.
Dismissing Iowa and New Hampshire voters because those states are mostly white and saying that South Carolina voters are the ones that really count just seems like a lousy message. I have middle-of-the-road relatives in WI that don't vote because while they get Republicans are for the 1%, the message they get from (some) Democrats is that we only care about minorities.

(9,478 posts)Basically saying states in the Midwestern white votes somehow don't count as much is why we lost the Midwest in 2016. The majority of Democrats here in the Midwest are still white, and if you want to win back the blue wall, telling them that we don't really regard you as the base seems like a bonkers strategy. But hey, maybe in 10 years we will have the votes in GA and TX (if the Republicans allow the votes to be counted in those states).

To be fair to Biden, I think that it's more the people in the establishment that he's surrounded himself with. Now that his campaign is floundering, they are looking to drop him for Mike Bloomberg it seems, even though Klobuchar, Buttagieg, and Warren have much better credentials.

Bidens loss wont knock him out of the box. That is the point supporters are making in that states that represent more of Americas diversity politically and racially are those he can do better in.
I think we have to say too bad for voters who believe our party focuses too much on racially diverse populations, given that in reality our agenda has never had much that specifically helps populations that are our backbone. Addressing social, political, economic, and justice system inequities should be our task going forward.
I heartily agree that Dems dont do enough outreach in rural areas, and in the whole middle section of the country. We have ceded some areas to Republicans where we can build an influence.

Describing his foray into Iowa as a failure is a misconception embraced by those who would willfully ignore one pertinent factor.
