"SNIP.....

“This party needs to wake up and make sure that we talk about things that are relevant to people. We don’t need to become the British Labor Party. That’s a bad thing. It’s not going well over there. We’re, like, talking about people voting from jail cells. And not having a border.”

— James Carville, quoted by The Hill, sounding the alarm for Democrats.

.....SNIP"

1. No one is seriously talking about open borders. But why shouldn't felons be allowed to vote?

2. They don't get to do a lot of things. There is a cost to crime. I'm fine

with people outside of prison or jail voting once they are released. But we need to be clear on both issues.

3. Seems rather arbitrary. What's the difference between someone incarcerated and someone not?

I don't understand how that impacts their right as a citizen to participate in representative democracy.

5. Okay. So why is the price of crime losing your most critical right as a citizen?

Still doesn't make sense to me. We all make mistakes. Some of those mistakes just happen to be more criminal than others.

Another issue is felon's rights are an issue of race and class. Voter restrictions disproportionately impact poor people of color.
