Wow. Buttigieg makes my heart hurt with joy.

Man, the last couple of days have been a rollercoaster of emotions. Born in the very early 70's, and coming of age and developing in the 80's in the rural southern community of Breaux Bridge (pronounced "bro&quot , Louisiana.. I remember the bitter, depressed, sometimes suicidal, angry, self-loathing teenager that was me.. One that shamefully held close those feelings inside me.. those feelings that made me a "pervert", a "sinner", "disgusting".. feelings that made me into a less than human creature whose descriptors were all used as the most vile of insults that could be hurled at people you disliked.

I so wish I could go back in time and tell that tortured youth that.. it's going to be alright. That in his lifetime he will see his sexuality grow to be accepted. That the act of sex itself will soon no longer be a crime. That HIV isn't and will stop being viewed by the majority as just punishment from god. That serving openly and honorable in the military will become reality. That within his very own lifetime gay marriage would be legalized. and that someday an openly gay, legally married man, a veteran that actually served openly and honorably, would run for president for one of the 2 major parties, and actually come out in the first contest on or extremely near the top!!!...

Even if Mayor Pete Buttigieg doesn't go any further, this IS an incredible victory soooo worth much celebration! even if it was only 62% reporting yesterday, and now just a bit more.. This matters, and it is beautiful to behold.

LOVE YOU PETE! THANK YOU!!!

The way I feel!

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/12/16/buttigiegs-foreign-policy-might-be-key-his-success/

He served, was a naval intelligence officer, and has the backing of "more than 200 national security and foreign policy officials who endorsed his candidacy".

So I'm not worried about that part. I'm not entirely on the bandwagon just because we have so many really good candidates; he's one of about five I think we'd be in really good shape with if they won the primary race.

His campaign against Sen. Baldwin was ugly. The biggest dogwhistle was the ad showing Nancy Pelosi's image with the voice saying "we don't need SAN FRANCISCO politics here in Wisconsin." I knew what it was saying and so did the bigots who were voting for Tommy anyway.

Of course it was Spivak and Bice from the Journal-Sentinel who exposed the deficit that Thompson/McCallum left behind. After way too many terms as governor, voters had Thompson fatigue. Having a mini scandal on top of it put a stake in the heart of his campaign. They never mentioned his mistress, however.

When Tommy ran for president, he didn't make it past neighboring Iowa. He finished 4th out of 6.

Luckily, Baldwin ran in 2018 against Leah Vukmir, the Michele Bachmann of Wisconsin. In 2024, it might be against Snotty Wanker.

I was saying yesterday. He would be a good president, but his preference is what I think will do him in. Had he married a woman, I would feel differently. That said, we never thought we would see a black president and we got one of the best in Obama,so anything is possible. He will go through a brutal in GE because of how cruel the cult of Trump and the king himself. Not that he can't handle it with his intelligence, I would be fearing for his life more than I did Obama.I love Pete and love to hear him speaking. Maybe if the Dems decided to get behind him,we can weather this storm. We will be fighting on all fronts from all forms of government and Russia and whatever country Rump ask for help and the traitors Reb.

Wed Feb 5, 2020, 11:20 AM

would vote for trump anyway. I said this earlier today in another thread and will repeat it here...

I think we forget that a lot of folks who 20 or 30 years ago would never have voted for a gay man or woman now have had to come to terms with the fact that they have friends and family members they love who are gay. In the past, they could pretend it wasn't true because so many stayed in the closet, but I've seen firsthand how the knowledge that their own loved ones are gay changed their feelings dramatically. I no longer think it's a deal-breaker the way it would have been a couple of decades ago.

While it isn't as personal for me, I do feel a lot of pride that we are moving forward in that regard.

I don't think it is his time but I really like him. The great thing is he should have 40 more years to grow and serve.

I hope he comes away with an important position in the very near future so he can stay in the public eye and get more on his resume at the national level.

I have heard many Cabinet positions floated as possibilities and would support him in any of them. One thing I have not seen mentioned that I would seriously consider is Chief of Staff. I would love to have that calm cool intellect on my side in a crisis.

He is also one of the few candidates that has not changed his position on health care, etc. He has said things that have not been the most popular, he also doesn’t wait to poll test his every answer. He is a moderate which I feel appeals to many. I think he’s youth is what most people will hold against him. I love Buttigieg every time I hear him speak. Pretty sad you don't find any inspiration at all in social progress. Rather pathetic actually.

because of the grass roots campaigning and meeting directly with as many voters as possible. And having passionate supporters convince others to vote for their candidate. It worked for Obama in 2008.
