Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumAmy Klobuchar supporters
I'm asking you if you can turn your support to Pete Buttigieg. It is obvious that Klobuchar can not become the nominee (sorry). And if you feel that a far left candidate like Warren or Bernie can not win a general election wouldn't it make sense to support the best moderate candidate?
Biden has shown he will not be a strong candidate. He is the VP to one of the most popular Presidents ever and he finished in 4th place in Iowa. A state at one time he was winning. He lost to Pete Buttigieg because Pete has that "IT" factor. When people get to know Pete his popularity grows. He also did well across the spectrum (old, young, female, male ..etc)
The party needs to start coming together behind one moderate or Bernie will start to run away with this. Maybe Bloomberg is the answer. I do not know.
All I heard was that other supporters would move to Biden in Iowa if their candidate did not get in. This was not true. They went to Pete or Warren & Sanders.
The latest NH poll Pete is already passing Biden. He is about to catch fire and we need to gt his numbers up competing with sanders.
I even ask Biden supporters to vote for Pete. Make the NH race close against Bernie.

(28,817 posts)Thanks.
One thread over someone wants Joe to quit for Pete.
Just throwing shit on the wall to see if it sticks. IMO
Plus keep in mind, Pete himself isnt suggesting such a thing. He knows its not happening.

(25,487 posts)Then Bloomberg.
After Amy.... I'm all about the "Bs".
If Biden wins NV and SC, and finishes in top 3 in NH... I think he'll be fine. If not.... I'll move to whoever looks stronger between Buttigieg and Bloomberg.

(421 posts)And I agree with you that Biden is a weak candidate - highly likeable but can't keep up mentally and physically. He'll get shredded in a debate with drumpf.
If we pick a Presidential candidate that's too far left, like Warren or Sanders, we will lose ANY possibility of retaking control of the Senate that's heavily weighted towards sparsely populated RED states. That means, Moscow Mitch McConnel will block every judicial appointment, every Supreme Court appointment (let our beloved RBG finally retire), every piece of legislation, he'll block everything.
Even some IA Dems had a homophobia/bigot problem claiming the bible is against homosexuality. And they were Dems!
We need the Senate. We need a centrist Pres candidate that will win it back.
We need Amy for president. She can win it all back. She's got what it takes.

(92,187 posts)his viability or not
Mayor Pete and Warren are definitely in through Super Tuesday, and Sanders is a given through Super Tuesday.
In my view Klobuchar has to surpass Biden in NH to be viable, and if that doesn't happen, I think her campaign will have major challenges

(421 posts)I will walk over fire and broken glass to support ANY Dem presidential candidate after it's decided at the national convention. I will give money, time, bake cookies, ANYTHING that will GOTV and de-trump our country.
So many of our country's institutions that we thought were invulnerable (and the livability of the planet) are at stake.

(92,187 posts)discriminates against those with mobility issues, and those who cannot spend hours in a caucus hall.
In addition, it allows those caucus goers to badger each other to change their vote for the second ballot. It is a terrible process, and an insult to the secret ballot.
Iowa is not a bellwether.
I agree with you that Klobuchar has the greatest challenge, but I don't see any of the candidates base supporters dropping out until after the NH primary.
Regardless what happens in NH Biden will stay in the race through Super Tuesday. Same with Warren and Mayor Pete.
In my view the only question is if Klobuchar will stay in through Super Tuesday or not.

(17,862 posts)If she can't get traction in Iowa, then she is not a viable candidate. Too bad because I think she would have made a good President.
If Pete B. is last moderate standing, then he has my support. Right now I am going with experience.

(92,187 posts)early states, and assuming because of that he won't do well Super Tuesday, and that is flawed in my opinion.
Biden is NOT going to drop out, and his base supporters are NOT going to leave him. Super Tuesday MUST play out for Biden and his supporters.

(1,584 posts)What does she stand for? All I have heard from her is what she thinks cant be done.
Joe is pretty much the same but at least we know he can do the job.
Pete has charisma and has built a great campaign. This demonstrates his leadership ability.
Warren is probably the most qualified candidate with a vision- thus my support.
Sanders has a vision and passionate base.
Bloomberg has a lot of money.
The question to Warren and Sanders is would you sign legislation that is short of your stated goal? Like if its just fixes for Obamacare, maybe a public option. Warren said yes.
The question for Amy, Biden and Pete is if by some miracle the House and senate pass Medicare for all, wealth tax, etc - would they sign or veto it. Because they all are correct that those things arent likely to pass, but we should stop with trying to initiate negotiations with the weakest position.

(628 posts)on your last question. Pete said the end goal is to get to medicare for all but we need to take steps to get there. Start with a public option. So if the house and senate passed medicare for all he would obliviously sign it.

(1,584 posts)We had the House, Senate and White House and we didnt get a public option because our own side was afraid to push for it. We got Obamacare through and paid a heavy price losing the House then the Senate. So lets learn and decide that when we stick our necks out for important change, that we stick them out all the way.

(146,288 posts)We have one botched caucus state's partial results so far. That's all. Let the early four primary events play out, and then we can talk about such things. Right now, all of the leading candidates are still solidly in the race and actively campaigning.
Nobody will be switching at this point, frankly.

(2,706 posts)Its still a bad post. No one is dropping out after that cluster-f, especially where NH wont decide anything.
And asking others to do so only reflects negatively on your candidate.
I would delete this thread.

(115,683 posts)that functionally excludes a lot of people, it is not indicative of how Biden (or any other candidate) will do in states where there are actual black people. I like Buttigieg a lot but he has almost no support at all among PoC, whose votes we will desperately need. Let's wait until South Carolina has spoken.

(6,622 posts)Pete is about top on my list (it keeps changing), but we've had ONE election - and a flawed one, at that. If you were asking Tulsi to withdraw, I'd be all on board, but let's see how things shake out in the coming weeks. I want to see more out of Amy, and if I were an avid Amy supporter (edited to add: or a Biden supporter), I'd be pretty offended by such a presumptuous suggestion.

(1,205 posts)I do not think she is "the far left" and is a solid Democratic choice with a lot of her base HRC voters. So, that is a bit offensive to me. I can easily get behind Buttigieg but I think Warren would have a better chance in GE.
