How Pete Won

On Monday night, Buttigieg answered that question. He crushed Biden in the Iowa caucuses. As of Wednesday morning, with more than 70 percent of precincts reporting, Sen. Bernie Sanders was narrowly leading the popular vote, thanks to big margins in left-leaning parts of the state. But Buttigieg, by assembling a broad coalition of progressives, moderates, suburbs, and small towns, was winning the “delegate equivalent” count—Iowa’s version of the Electoral College. Biden was clinging to fourth place, behind Sen. Elizabeth Warren and barely ahead of Sen. Amy Klobuchar, with fewer votes than Buttigieg won in his two elections in South Bend.

Even if Sanders wins or there is a tie in delegates, Pete deserves well earned congratulations for running a superb campaign in Iowa.

He demonstrated that he has what it takes to be a transformational candidate in national politics.

Best of luck to him and his supporters going forward.

for the ultimate win where Biden has the advantage in good part due to black support, but also to wider appeal and superior qualifications. Strategy alone will not work in more diverse states while the hard feelings Buttigieg has inspired due to his South Bend record and big mistakes on Frederick Douglas roll-out are not going to vanish because he won Iowa, even if he does well in NH.

Surrogates are fine but it aint the whole carnival. With 3 campaigns star attractions frozen in Washington for weeks and the other one getting hammered as corrupt every night.

I know many don't want to say this, but I believe it Dramatically effected the caucus and I think you can see it in turnout.

But we can judge soon. If it just shaved a bit a point or two off the others and depressed the turnout. Then Buttigieg would have been right there in the pack at the first vote and so the world would be different.

With 91% of the vote reported he is 1200 votes behind Sanders. The National delegates are Sanders 11, Buttigieg 11 and Warren 5. 14 to be allocated. How is that a win?
