Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) said Thursday she takes full responsibility over concerns voiced by a half-dozen women of color who reportedly departed Warrens presidential campaign in Nevada over complaints of a toxic work environment.
I believe these women without any equivocation, and I apologize personally that they had a bad experience on the campaign, Warren said Thursday on MSNBC.
Her comments were in response to a Politico report published earlier that day about the women departing the campaign. The women told Politico they felt tokenized by senior leadership on the campaign and were often silenced.
Warren said she works hard to build an open environment where everyone is welcomed and celebrated to bring their whole self to work every day.
But I'm also very aware that racism and oppression in this country have left a long legacy and it creates the kind of toxicity where ... power structures people take advantage of other people, Warren said.

It's generally only the negative that gets posted by supporters of other candidates.
And Warren - as always - takes full responsibility. Unlike some.

You are not one of those who usually posts the negative. I shouldn't have been so quick off the mark.

(16,855 posts)That this report comes out about Elizabeth and she comes out and makes an announcement taking full responsibility, and yet another campaign had an article published in The NY Times right before the iowa caucuses which expressed issues staff had with regards to toxicity for people of color within the campaign and we've heard nothing...nothing.

(16,855 posts)You're talking about people coming forward who work for that campaign...a campaign that already has a perceived problem with black voters and barely a peep is heard. I like Pete, but this is clearly a different standard for candidates.

(46,697 posts)Thank you for bringing to attention the fact that many minorities feel marginalized and "tokenized" in organizations that are predominantly white. I have experienced it and feel the only reason some of these organizations want you in their midst is for the group photo.
And thank you Elizabeth Warren for recognizing it. You would be surprised how many don't get it.

(16,616 posts)What a breath of fresh air to hear a politician acknowledge and own a problem without other-blaming or finding some excuse.
That's "character."

(32,640 posts)and then when you finally do talk, it's about how you had 'no idea' that your campaign had paid out a $30,000 harassment settlement because of a field staffer, or that women were paid less than men, and you're sorry that some people "felt" they had been "treated unfairly." You don't give the silent treatment to the victims, so they feel they have no other alternative but to warn others to try to prevent it from happening again.
You acknowledge the issue, you articulate what you have learned from it, you actually apologize and say you believe them (and don't insult them by saying they 'felt' like something happened,) and you take responsibility like a grown ass adult candidate who is serious about social justice issues!

(37,748 posts)I applaud her candor, her acceptance of responsibility, and her refusal to point fingers or cast blame at anyone but herself.
She'd make a great President, and I sure as hell wouldn't have to hold my nose while voting for her over over Trump.
