What stands out after Iowa is Bernie Sanders' limited crossover appeal

<snip>

"He might have met expectations, but he certainly didn’t exceed them. Turnout was lower than expected. And the entrance poll showed him with limited crossover appeal outside of his young, very liberal base.

Sanders got just 8 percent support from Iowa caucus-goers 45 and older. And among seniors 65-plus, it was just 4 percent.

While he overperformed among “very liberal” Iowa Dems (43 percent), he underperformed among “somewhat liberals” (19 percent) and moderates (12 percent).

He got just 12 percent support from white women college graduates — arguably the heart of the Dem resistance against Trump.

And maybe most concerning of all for Sanders, he won more than half of the Iowa caucus-goers who said they supported him in 2016. But he barely registered (7 percent) among the 54 percent of all Iowa caucus-goers who said they backed Hillary Clinton four years ago.

So his base — right now — is about half of the Democrats who supported him in 2016.

But few else."

to go after Warren with non truths like the taking away peoples insurance thing I have been reading about. I want Sanders beaten, regardless who it is. Klobuchar and Warren are top, and I will readily support Buttigieg, and Biden if he gets his juice. I am good to go. But I am not into making any of those four weaker. I do not care which candidate is losing.

i'm okay with that.

I started with Kamala..moved to Liz because Kamala wasn't making inroads.

I love Liz but when I did the research I came to the conclusion that Amy was more effective... still love Liz, would be thrilled with a Liz outcome.

Holding my super tuesday ballot until I have a better understanding of where my vote is most effective

In Iowa in 2016 there were two competitive candidates. In Iowa in 2020 there were 5. Of course the portion Sanders got this time is lower.

Apparently Biden didn't have much appeal with any group. Well, there probably is some subset of the electorate there he did well with.

...and also when he had far less in the way of serious competition, and was running largely against a candidate who had high negatives. It's a tougher field for him this time. He still basically eked out a virtual tie... which actually is just what happened in 2016.

I think it's way too soon to count him out, for only *almost* winning Iowa.

One day a guy walks into an ice cream shoppe and asks; "what flavors do have for sale"? The clerk responds, "Chocolate, Vanilla, and Burnt Pickle" So the guy buys a chocolate cone and asks, "What are other people buying?" The clerk responds "Very few people are buying Burnt Pickle, and it's pretty much half and half between Vanilla and Chocolate for all the rest".

A month later that same guy walks into the same ice cream shoppe and asks, "What flavors do you have for sale this time?" The clerk responds "We have a lot more choices this time. We still have Chocolate and Vanilla, but also Espresso, and Strawberry. and Mint Chocolate Chip, and Butter Pecan, and Rocky Road, and also Bitter Mushroom." "That is a lot more choices" the customer says, "but I think I'll have Chocolate again." He then adds, "I'm curious though about what other people are buying". The clerk responds "Well, Chocolate and Vanilla are still far and away our best sellers, probably half or more of our customers are choosing one of those, pretty much neck and neck between them, with the rest of our customers selecting one of the other flavors that we now have available as their first choice."

"Gee that's too bad" says the guy, "Chocolate is only half as popular now as it was the last time that I shopped here."
