What was that about?
On edit - Thanks for all the info. I missed that in her comments and had no idea what they were referring to.

She was chiding him for wanting to look away from the hard work of the Senate.
I'll look for that quote of Pete's. I didn't hear about it earlier.

(14,565 posts)I forget the exact quote but it was along those lines. Amy said something about it being easy to sit back and criticize, and play the outsider role time and again, but real necessary work is being done in those proceedings.

(8,144 posts)Petes dismissal of Washington old hat insiders and its a new day of biz only inexperienced young
mayors like himself can handle. She ate him for breakfast and it didnt seem trying to score points. It was like ok smart Alec quiz kid heres the real stuff...

(81,455 posts)We cannot solve the problems before us by looking back. We have to be ready to turn the page and change our politics before its too late. And Im seeing everywhere I go not just fellow Democrats, but a striking number of independents and what I like to call future former Republicans, ready to join in that historic American majority to turn the page.
KLOBUCHAR: I am listening to this about meeting the moment, and my first thought is, Im a fresh face up here for a presidential debate. And I figure, Pete, that 59 my age is the new 38 up here.
The second thing I think about is this: And that is meeting the moment. We had a moment the last few weeks, Mayor, and that moment was these impeachment hearings. And there was a lot of courage that you saw from only a few people. There was courage from Doug Jones, our friend from Alabama, who took that tough vote. There was courage from Mitt Romney, who took a very, very difficult vote. There was courage, as I read today, about Lt. Col. Vindman being escorted out of the White House. What he did took courage.
But what you said, Pete, as you were campaigning through Iowa, as three of us were jurors in that impeachment hearing you said it was exhausting to watch and that you wanted to turn the channel and watch cartoons.
It is easy to go after Washington because thats a popular thing to do. It is much harder as I see Senator Shaheen, in the front row, such a leader it is much harder to lead, and much harder to take those difficult positions. Because I think this going after every single thing that people do, because its popular to say and makes you look like a cool newcomer I just, I dont think thats what people want right now.
We have a newcomer in the White House, and look where it got us. I think having some experience is a good thing.

(10,570 posts)Tonight Klobuchar flatly misrepresented what Buttigieg said about cartoons.
Here's the context. He said voters mustn't give in to the temptation to "switch it off and walk away."
That's the *opposite* of what she alleges.

(18,402 posts)Fact Check: Ms. Klobuchar distorted comments made by Mr. Buttigieg about the impeachment trial.
Ms. Klobuchar: But what you said Pete as you were campaigning through Iowa as three of us were jurors in the impeachment hearing you said it was exhausting to watch and that you wanted to turn the channel and watch cartoons.
This is misleading. Ms. Klobuchar was likely referring to remarks made by Mr. Buttigieg recently on the campaign trail. But he was criticizing Senate Republicans and urging voters to not give in to that sense of exhaustion.
It can be exhausting, he said of the impeachment trial at one January event in Iowa. A process in Washington where the Senate GOP is telling us this is going to be a foregone conclusion. Its almost designed, I think, to make us feel so beaten down that you want to just pick up the remote and change to cartoons because its punching you in the face all the time.
But if we give in to that, of course, thats how cynicism wins, he continued. And the great thing about being alive and being eligible to vote in the year 2020 is that this is our opportunity to send a different message.

(18,402 posts)and think shes a star debater. But she has an dark side, too. This wasnt a misstatement; it was clearly a well planned attack. And she had to know it was a gross distortion of what he said. (I happened to have heard it on television, so I immediately sensed it was a false attack.)
Attacks are fine, but they have to be fair and based on fact. People are going to believe he said this, and it will be repeated. Thats Trump tactics. She needs to retract and apologize, or lose credibility.

(8,144 posts)glib. Shows me I need to investigate before jumping to conclusions. Could she have misinterpreted? Didnt seem planned. Oh, I misunderstood. He was speaking on the record. Then surely he didnt mean to say what she implied. So she used words out of context against him. Thats not right, but I get her reaction to how he sets himself up against the old Washington insiders when hes relatively an upstart.
This, totally recasting what hed related to make him look callous and immature, was not a good
tactic.

(4,558 posts)I'd rather they were all just focusing on Trump the way Bloomberg is, and whichever candidate does the best job gets the votes.. not good to be going after each other like this with so much on the line..
but I also realize it's how primaries go.. still like Amy as well despite the disingenuous swipe.

He implied the seriousness of these hearings, momentous historicallyin effect saying they are a terrible train wreck you cant look away from though you wish you could.
I paraphrase completely. She wasnt close to the sentiment he conveyed, opposite completely to the light she depicted it in.

(2,227 posts)so the candidates will play dirty pool to get him (thanks, Amy, you sure know how to cherry pick and misrepresent what he said, frankly it is beneath you), and other candidate's supporters will jump on the band wagon and continue to spread the misrepresentation.
