This "billionaire donor" talking point is a dud, destined to fall on deaf ears

A. Individually, they each can only donate $2800 max, just like the rest of us.

B. Yes, they can form PACs to get around that. Buttigieg only has one PAC, VoteVets.org, supporting him. Bernie has 6 PACs. It is a disingenuous talking point.

C. Unilaterally disarming in the money war against Trump is pretty stupid.

D. The reason Bloomberg is doing better and better in polls is because people are desperate and don't care how much money is spent, just get Trump out!

E. Everybody who cares about "billionaires donating" is already a Bernie supporter. These attacks don't sway a single voter.

primary today, I would vote for:

I still haven't decided. I like Amy. I like Elizabeth. I was leaning Biden, but he seems to be fading.

I think Bloomberg is one of the strongest candidates to go up against Trump. I think Trump is actually scared of him. Bloomberg won't be afraid to challenge him in a debate and hit back harder than he gets. So if Bloomberg ends up the winning candidate, I won't be disappointed. And I bet he'll pick a running mate that will be an excellent Presidential candidate to follow him.

But....
If markets were to work as they are supposed to.....
Conditioned such that they are free of fraud, free of asymmetries, free of unbalanced market power, and free of govt interventions for sake of special interests serving no public purpose....(this is the classical definition of free markets...which is the opposite of what idiot conservatives/libertarians tell us)
And that the govt spends/lends for public purpose, regulates the economy for public purpose, and maintains full employment/full output.....
Theory would then indicate that we would have much less inequality and less opportunity for billionaires or .1%ers to emerge from the checks and balances of markets and state.
So the existence of billionaires or .1%ers in a society with massive poverty is a failure of public policy.

That might not play well politically....but we cannot delude ourselves in private conversation.
The point in 2020 might be Everybody vs Trump...but we should not ignore what it means to continue to rely on the moneyed classes for political campaigns. They will invariably further entrench themselves in the direction of public policy. And if we are to have the nice things...the progressive things....there will have to be reckoning...and there may not ever be a convenient time for it.

When the rules change, then we can have the conversation. I have seen Sanders over the last 5 yrs and he is not real clear where his money is coming from so, I do not really trust that argument from him. If he ignores FEC violations and ignores his own super pacs, then all it is, is rhetoric.
