Heads up .. Operation Chaos is targeting South Carolina

This:

South Carolina utilizes an open primary system, in which registered voters do not have to be members of a party to vote in that party's primary. Voters must take an oath affirming that they have not voted in another party's primary.

We have the right and their cohorts the russians trying to tip our selection process.. I have no idea how we fight this if it is true you just have to take an oath you have not voted in another primary.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Marie Newman. Many GOP voters voted in the Democratic primary so Lipinski narrowly won. So yes, this can happen in open primary states.

Lots of people from the opposing party cross over in primaries when there is an incumbent running from their side.

There is always the concern over crossover sabotage, but that can sometimes backfire.

In 2010, the primary for Michigan Governor had only one viable D candidate and a whole field of R candidates. There appeared to be a lot of crossover from Dems into the R primary.

A surprise candidate, Rick Snyder, with no previous government experience won over several better known R politicians. I believe
that it was Democratic voters that assumed a "no name" just had to be better than the others that allowed him to win the primary. Unfortunately he won easily in the General Election and enacted many damaging policies during his two terms.

Same thing probably happened in 2012 in the Republican primary since President Obama was unopposed.

Thanks!

I love reading DU, lots of smart people and intelligent conversation here. A little off topic but yeah, I've been really disappointed with the last election here, but on the bright side people are starting to wake up. There is a real push to rid ourselves of that festering pimple of a premier, with almost non-stop protests & strikes.

Cheers, Pete

Um, don't they keep track of who's already voted? My state, California, has semi-open primaries (non-affiliated votes may request party ballots from certain parties) but every voter gets one ballot. Yeah, someone may go kick up a fuss that they didn't get a mail-in ballot, or that they got the wrong one, in which case they can cast a provisional ballot, but in the end only one counts.

No problem, thanks for the warm welcome.

P.S. not that it matters, but I think VP Biden's great! Admit that I'm a bit biased though, as he is known to be a traveler and supporter of Amtrak, something this train nut can relate to as we (myself & my wife) have used the Amtrak system extensively. Plus I like his presentation style and seeming approachability. All of the Dem candidates are great though - head and shoulders above the current individual at Pennsylvania Ave.
