Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forum2020 is Biden's 3rd run for the presidential nomination
Biden ran in 1988 and 2008, and is again running in 2020.
At 73, I'm old enough to remember Harold Stassen, a former governor of Minnesota.
Stassen ran nine times for the GOP presidential nomination.
(1944, 1948, 1952, 1964, 1968, 1980, 1984, 1988, and 1992)
Has anyone else run 3 or more times for a presidential nomination (excluding FDR, who won 4 times)?

(34,195 posts)Eugene McCarthy, senator from Minnesota, though successful in multiple campaigns for the U.S. Congress, was a perennial presidential candidate.
He ran for the Presidency five times, in 1968, 1972, 1976, 1988, and 1992.
Several individuals have unsuccessfully sought the presidency as the candidate of a major party multiple times;
only Henry Clay and William Jennings Bryan have done so thrice.

Well, Tuesday is a big day for both our candidates.
So good luck to both, perhaps both can come out winners somehow.

And Nadar ran 5 times and lost. No one told him to quit after 3.

(34,195 posts)Months ago some were pushing Oprah for President and I questioned her qualifications to be president.
I was told I obviously hate women and people of color.
