Trump has a history of making mean-spirited, cruel remarks towards people he perceives as against/beneath him. He doesn't laugh with people, he laughs at people, and worse, he encourages others to do the same.

If the office bully says to me, "You're a dumbass" and the office clown says the exact same thing, I know that one intends it to wound and the other intends it as a joke. You have to consider the source.

Joe Biden is a long way from mean-spirited and cruel. Calling for an end to his campaign over this is circular firing squad nonsense.

To me this is a big ol' nothingburger. And tacitly suggesting in your poll that he should end his campaign is just silly. The people in the room evidently didn't think it was a grievous insult against the young lady in question. This is by no means similar to Trump's behavior, and trying to draw a line between the two is extremely disingenuous, in my opinion.

She stated she was shaken by the comment and flummoxed but I have heard enough replies dismissing her or reiterating she is a liar, that I am done. I can go forward in good conscience standing up for the young woman, even if only one of the few. I am done. Blows my mind.

I also think Joe's response is being blown way out of proportion. She was "shaken" per the article, and you're saying she was "flummoxed." Is she upset? Angry? Does she feel like he humiliated her? Does she feel that his response was mean-spirited? If she speaks further on the matter and says any/all of those things, then I'll criticize Joe. As of now, this seems like much ado about nothing to me.

that every word gets parsed to the extreme during a campaign and as others have already said, he should just retire lines like these. Even without any bad intent behind the line, it's still something that should be avoided. A veteran politician and his advisors should know that.

Just be more careful and don't deliver oppo campaign ads on a silver platter. On the other side, he'd lose much of his appeal if he'd change to only following a narrow script. He has to find that balance between being authentic and avoiding unnecessary errors.
