I understand most here are not very familiar with hhow he operates. Or you are and are just DENYING it out of desperation or you are totally shot from years of cheato.

When he was mayor, he divided NY into sections that he then $OLD off to his cronies. See: Dan Doctoroof , etc etc etc.....

All of his top guys were REAL ESTATE EEVELOPERS, that PUSHED POOR AND WORKING CLASS out of their neighborhoods, all the while ENRICHING HIMSELF and his CRONIES.

And using his POLICE DEPARTED to violate the

Guy is a fucking OLIGARCH , right now bending whichever way the wind blows to BUY power.

once in a while when someone doesnt want to wait their turn for a higher office will do something to ditch the party label, get in the other party, run in the other primary.
or if they dont like the party nominee, but the ge is a token thing. famously, when harold washington was nominated, his primary opponent started a new party.

i dont know the details of it, but i just assume it was a convenience.

re Many Lives of Mike Bloomberg book...

One area of confusion the book dispels without any question is that he never deceived the public about why he switched from Democrat to Republican. He grew up in a Democratic family. When he ran for mayor, there were many candidates running as Democrats, and Rudy Giuliani, a Republican, had been in office for two terms. Bloomberg switched to Republican to avoid the chaotic shark tank the Democratic primary had become, but whenever he was asked about his politics, he always said, "I am a liberal." He gave a memorable news conference where he was asked yet again about his politics, and his answer was this: "I am a Liberal. I am a Liberal. I am a Liberal. I AM A LIBERAL."

After he was elected and he was doing meet-and-greets with influential local politicians, his campaign chairman asked him, "Which Republicans do you want to meet with."

In response, Bloomberg used the fingers of one hand to make the number zero.

Soon thereafter he met with Al Sharpton and several other important Democratic leaders.

he has accomplished good things (and some not good things)

He raised taxes on the wealthy in NYC after 911 to support the redevelopment of the city instead of cutting serviced for the poor.

He donated a billion dollars to his alma mater so that students of limited means will be able to attend

He donated hundreds of millions to democrats running for elections

He donated hundreds of millions to choice.

He also continued stop and frisk, he ran his business with a frat party atmosphere and made some unsavory comments to female employees, and if it matters, he's a billionaire..but an actual self-made billionaire.

So good and bad. Good outweighs the bad to me (so far) but he's not my first or last choice.

Legalizing marijuana is not in my top 10 concerns.

The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and former vice president on Monday rolled back his stance that marijuana is a "gateway drug" — and wrongly claimed that he had never said so in the first place.

"I don't think it is a gateway drug. There's no evidence I've seen to suggest that," Biden said in a conference call with reporters.

Biden claimed that he never said marijuana was a gateway drug, only that "some say" it is. When asked about legalizing weed, Biden said "some in the medical community" say pot needs to be studied more to determine whether it is a gateway drug or could be harmful when combined with other substances.

41. I don't think folks should go to jail for pot...
Mon Feb 10, 2020, 01:49 PM
Feb 2020

...however, as a boomer, former pot smoker, pot smoking is undermining all the progress we've made against public smoking.

Folks have assumed that because it's legal, you can smoke it anywhere. There are many folks who cannot be around smoke - asthmatics, folks with severe allergies, lung diseases, etc. The most basic right to breathe clean air in our own home is being trampled by pot smokers who feel their right to smoke pot gives them permission to pollute the air around them.

My "nonsmoking" apartment complex is practically unliveable at times due to the pot scofflaws blowing stank into other folks' homes. It has caused a lot of conflict between residents, and a lot of resentment against the selfish smokers.

70. The problem is that they do it when mgmt isn't around.
Mon Feb 10, 2020, 02:57 PM
Feb 2020

Mgmt cannot enforce it unless they catch them in the act. Which is near impossible. So they've given up on trying to enforce it.

I live blocks from the sea. Imagine not being able to open a window and enjoy a fresh breeze in your home for the pot stank. The pot smokers are far more inconsiderate than the tobacco smokers here.

If you want to see the scope of the issue, go to AVVO and do a search on pot smoking neighbors. It's a legal site that shows how rampant the problem is, and how intractable.

They smoke inside their units, then blow outside, or the smoke travels through the vents, floors, walls, etc. Just like secondhand tobacco smoke disperses throughout a building. Also, mgmt has no obligation to enforce the lease, even if they say it's no smoking.

Looking for another place to move. But there's no guarantee the problem won't be there as well.

I'm hoping that by being vocal, at least the conscientious smokers will take pity on those of us who cannot be around smoke.

Bloomberg looks to reverse many of the tax reforms put in place by the Trump administration in 2017. Bloomberg's plan proposes adding a 5 percent surtax on incomes above $5 million a year and increasing the corporate tax from 21 percent to 28 percent, which is still 7 percentage points less than it was prior to the 2017 tax law.

The plan also proposes to close loopholes and increase funding for the IRS in an effort to shrink the tax gap, which Bloomberg's advisers say is about $6 trillion to $8 trillion over 10 years.

"Tackling income inequality requires major new investments in education, job training, health care, affordable housing, infrastructure and other areas this president is ignoring or making worse," Bloomberg said in a statement. "Those investments require new revenue - and a fairer, more progressive tax system that asks wealthy Americans like me to pay more."

This is why I still don't trust the man. However, I do like the messages he's running on tv for the most part.

Also - if he gets the D nomination - I will 100% vote for him and even do GOTV efforts with FL Democratic party to help him win. He's not pure evil like his opponent, so that's good enough for me this time.

87. are these the plagiarized ones?

Feb 2020

MIKE BLOOMBERG’S PRESIDENTIAL campaign plagiarized portions of its plans for maternal health, LGBTQ equality, the economy, tax policy, infrastructure, and mental health from research publications, media outlets, and a number of nonprofit, educational, and policy groups.

The Intercept found that exact passages from at least eight Bloomberg plans or accompanying fact sheets were direct copies of material from media outlets including CNN, Time, and CBS, a research center at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the American Medical Association, Everytown for Gun Safety, Building America’s Future Educational Fund, and other organizations. Bloomberg co-founded Everytown for Gun Safety, a political organization focused on gun control, and Building America’s Future Educational Fund, a nonprofit working on infrastructure investment and reform, and has chaired them in the past, and he was listed as a co-author on the educational fund’s reports. He is not clearly affiliated with the other sources. The plagiarized sections ranged in length from entire paragraphs to individual sentences and fragments in documents that were between five and 14 pages long.

On Wednesday afternoon, The Intercept sent a detailed query to the Bloomberg campaign. By Thursday morning, one of the plans was completely taken down, while others were changed. Asked about the plan that was removed, spokesperson Julie Wood said the campaign would notify The Intercept when it was posted again.

The Bloomberg campaign did not deny the plagiarism. In a statement, the campaign said, “Much of what you flagged were fact sheets that went out via MailChimp” — an online newsletter service — “which doesn’t support footnote formatting. When we announce policy platforms, we put together detailed fact sheets with context and supporting background, so that reporters understand the problem we’re trying to solve with our policy. For sourcing, we often look to the organizations that Mike has led or worked with in the past, like the City of New York and Building America’s Future. We have since added citations and links to these documents.”

also, if you visit the link, there are side-by-side comparisons of the original source and Bloomberg's positions.

another thing: the MailChimp excuse doesn't cut it. We don't do footnotes anymore, we do MLA and APA, which are easy to document in MailChimp.

"But it sure wasn’t when he was mayor - guess he changed, right? Amazing how all those little gifts are doable all of a sudden"

The "little gifts" aren't "sudden" -- they've been going on for decades, including during his time as mayor.

He pledged to donate his fortune to charity in 2010, right in the middle of his tenure as mayor. He'd already donated hundreds of millions to charities prior and has donated billions since.

This is nothing new. He's not doing this because he's running for president. The stuff in the OP is no different from what he's been doing for 20 years or more.
