Why did President Obama endorse Hillary but not Biden?

Joe was his vice-president, the next in line to him, and Hillary was just the SoS.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

they're smart to avoid the possibility of endorsing a primary candidate who doesn't win, since that would lessen the effectiveness of their endorsement later.

So, it would seem to me that it is a little early yet for him to endorse Biden.

Clearly he's doing the same this go around - waiting for there to be a nominee before endorsing.
