The NeverEnding story: Bernie Sanders requests Iowa caucus recanvass after Pete Buttigieg declared winner

The Iowa caucuses just can’t seem to end.

With just one day to go until the New Hampshire primary, Bernie Sanders on Monday called for a partial recount of the Iowa caucuses after Pete Buttigieg was crowned the winner of the bungled first-in-the-nation presidential contest by a razor-thin margin.

In a formal request, Sanders asked Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Troy Price to initiate a so-called “recanvass” of 25 precincts and three satellite caucuses over concerns that Buttigieg was awarded too many State Delegate Equivalents (SDEs).

"It is a necessary part of making sure Iowans can trust the final results of the caucus,” senior Sanders campaign adviser Jeff Weaver said in a statement.

Here we go again. Damned if you do and damned if you don't, and of course Jeff Weaver of the "superdelegates kerfuffle" is smack in the middle of this. No surprise. Also not surprising is the cherry-picked precincts.

The precincts specifically had discrepancies that could change the results, which is why they are chosen. If other precincts had discrepancies for other candidates that could favor them, they are also free to do a recanvass.

Seems mostly incompetence and careless behavior. Generally don't see much malevolence beyond local officials not wanting to admit they screwed up.

I might make an exception wrt the IDP attorney who claims that there is no mechanism to correct the caucus work sheets. Some even assigned more delegates than they had the right to. How can that be allowed?

I suspect Iowa has always been error prone, only now we have more substantiating evidence.

But the conspiracy mongering by Sanders partisans has been going non-stop for the last four years.

that says the Iowa caucus has been "cheating for the last 100 years?"

And this is, of course, why everybody "loves" to work with Bernie Sanders.

If it all checks out, all good. If it doesn't, every Democrat should be alarmed. We either have transparency and accuracy, or we don't. There's no "almost" accurate.
