Which isn't even to make a comment on actual socialism. Providing state assistance to those in need, and even providing something like a public option or Medicare-for-all is not "socialism."

In most parts of the world (and in the US 50+ years ago), he would be considered a center-left candidate.

Tue Feb 11, 2020, 02:40 AM

Andrew Gillum was defined as a socialist. It destroyed his numbers among Hispanics and specifically in Dade County

Gillum was backed by Sanders and only gained the upset nomination because of late wave support from the Sanders crowd above Gwen Graham, a boring moderate who unquestionably would have defeated Ron DeSantis.

There are always warning signs in the midterms. Nobody can tell me the fear is make believe. The swing states have similar makeup as the nation itself...which means more self-identified conservatives than liberals. We'd be asking Bernie Sanders to win key states which have between 5 and 11% more conservatives than liberals. Lotsa luck.

As always, the names don't mean anything. Rely on the big picture:

* Electing a socialist
* Electing a gay man

That is the reality. I have no idea why so many people get stuck in the little details while devaluing the wide scope

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

To do the things he proposes would make the US a very strong, very wealthy democracy. It would have an infrastructure that would catalyze small businesses everywhere. Even the smallest businesses of freelancers who currently cannot afford insurance.

That, to me, is a very centered, very reasonable country. Bernie is smack dab in the center of what is reasonable. Eisenhower, a Republican, once said watch out for the military industrial complex, it will destabilize the country. Now that such a thing has occurred, getting back to stability, as Sanders and other progressives have proposed, should be considered "centrist." Nationalized health insurance is dead center in Europe. Giving a damn should be normal, centered, centrist. We have gone so far down the rabbit hole of corporate domination we don't know what a normal democracy should look like.

Giving a damn is not crazy. What's extreme is forgetting how far down the rabbit hole we've gotten into corporate domination for the benefit of increasingly fewer people.

Here's an idea. Instead of helping us all to lose our shirts in the next recession, help to build up American democracy. That's what a traditional Democrat does. That is what Bernie Sanders and the majority of Americans under 35 want. That is what huge numbers of older Americans increasingly want. And that is what the polling at the reputable agency, 538 is telling us. Bernie Sanders is in the lead. Giving a damn and STRENGTHENING our democracy is winning.

Indeed, Bernie is now viewed as the most electable... it's no longer Joe!! So, using that same standard, Joe should quit the race, as Bernie was told to do, forever and a day, when he trailed Biden.
