39. So far, he hasn't directly siphoned votes
Tue Feb 11, 2020, 01:46 PM
Feb 2020

Since he wasn't on the ballot in Iowa or New Hampshire. But he's indirectly siphoning support by dragging Biden down in the national and South Carolina polls, which is feeding into this "Biden collapsing" story and probably hurting his fundraising and his performance in the early states.

54. I'm guessing the rest will stay in NH and address their supporters

Feb 2020

In 2016, didn't Hillary and Bernie always speak to supporters in whatever state had a primary (unless more than 1 had primaries on the same day)? I'm almost positive that's how it was in 2008.

I like Biden a lot but this is a bad move on his part. He will lose even more votes in NH because of this, and the people who have been working hard for him there are probably going to be pissed about it and may decide they have better things to do with their day today than GOTV for him. His comment at the debate that he didn't expect to win already alienated at least a couple NH people who had planned to volunteer for him over the weekend, according to Politico. NH voters and activists have a very entitled mentality, and while I agree that candidates shouldn't keep cowtowing to it, the time to decide he wasn't going to give them their due was months ago, not the day of the primary.

I would find this somewhat insulting. That would be especially true for volunteers and staffers who spent time in NH.

This could actually be a reason people vote for someone else. I think it is a bad decision.

IDK if it will make his supporters vote for someone else - it could - but it will probably make his volunteers less motivated and some may decide they're not going to give up their day doing GOTV for him if he can't be bothered to stick around. This seems like a mistake to me.

so he's moving on to the next state. He may be doing it a little earlier than the other candidates, but it isn't really that big of a deal.

He's not expecting to do all that well in NH, so why stick around when he DOES expect to do well in SC?
