Talking tonight with a fellow Dem tonight and we agree (ruefully) that Bloomberg might just

be the only candidate that can really get up Trump's ass and beat him in the election. And Amy K. is our best bet as the running mate cause she'd mop up the midwest with Trump's hairball.

So we pondered that and, since neither of us drink any more, we decided we were OK with it, weird as it sounds, and mourned that we couldn't have the politics we wanted, so we're dealing with the politics we have handed to us.

It's a helluva thing...

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

It's the best I can think of right now. A little bit of emerging wisdom of the crowd.

White powerful male atop the ticket you simply have greater opportunity at more voters. Fewer dismiss you automatically. More will give you benefit of a doubt even if they couldn't describe why.

Amy's personality should fare well with some of those nasty suburban women who found asinine excuse to dislike Hillary.

Plus obviously the strength in vital midwestern states, which could easily be decided by roughly the tiny percentage that a VP nominee provides.

Also, I keep reading the crappiola that Bloomberg's money is a tipping point no matter who we nominate. That is sheer ignorance. Bloomberg's money is critical if Bloomberg is the nominee. Otherwise the theme falls into the same nonsensical category as all the claims that Trump will resign or Trump won't be the nominee. They sound good only at first overreactive glance. Then step back a few feet. Wait a minute...this guy is an incumbent with 95+% of his party backing him. Why would he resign? Wait a minute...elections are decided on preference. If the nation doesn't prefer our nominee, why would they give a flip about all those Bloomberg-financed commercials?

They won't. I hope I don't keep seeing that topic.

Rich people have run and won before, just look at JFK. But it's a different kind of rich people...it's ones who want to serve in the first place. Mike was not so inclined, but in a way seems like the kind of person who would run, after he earned the money through his own hard work.

He's not on my list of favorites (yet), but I think people take the fact that he was a Republican for a while and just assume he's a conservative. His overall record really says otherwise.

When Trump starts supporting choice, gun laws, raising taxes on the wealthy, expanding the ACA, protecting the environment, and donates $6 billion to charity, then maybe the comparison might have some validity.

that the best thing Bloomberg can do is spending his money running the Republican Senators into the ground non stop for the time between now and the election. It would only cost him five billion of his 60 billion. Not a big sacrifice......

WITHOUT THE REPUBLICAN SENATE, TRUMP IS VAPORIZED IN AN INSTANT...................

What is it with all these Billionaires? Warren Buffet saying he pays less taxes than his housekeeper and that we should tax the rich more, not less. I don't see him just sending in a few billion to the feds every year...... I'm sure they would gladly accept it.......
HOW MANY F***ING BILLIONS CAN A PERSON NEED????????? They earn MORE IN PROFITS from their investments every year than they can possibly spend............

A friend who works for a billionaire challenged that thinking and I got out a calculator, estimated the earnings every year from investing the number of BILLIONS he was worth. I took that yearly profit figure and divided it by 365 to show her how much he earned A DAY, and then broke that down by 24 hours and showed her how much he could spend AN HOUR. And pointed out that his capital was no lesser and that he hadn't invaded his capital at all.....

She was speechless. As she should have been. And gone to work the next day and asked for a raise..........

Stacey Abrams settles her IRS debt

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/444112-stacey-abrams-settles-her-irs-debt

Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D) has reportedly settled her tax debt with the Internal Revenue Service as she eyes a possible bid for the presidency. A spokesperson for Abrams told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday that Abrams settled the approximately $54,000 she owed the federal agency as well as separate credit card and student loan debt.

"Leader Abrams has been able to resolve her debt,” the spokesperson, Seth Bringman, said, “She will continue to speak openly about the challenges she faced — challenges that are all too common for Americans and their families."

Abrams had reported the debt during her campaign last year against then Georgia gubernatorial candidate, Brian Kemp (R). She revealed her debt to the IRS, in addition to roughly $170,000 in credit card and student loan debt, in financial documents in March. Abrams said she deferred tax payments in 2015 and 2016 to help pay for her family's medical bills, noting she was on a payment plan to resolve what she owed.

As a candidate for Georgia's highest office, Abrams spoke openly about her financial struggles to connect with voters, the paper noted. Republicans, meanwhile, targeted her debt in an attempt to discredit her ability to manage the state's budget.

He wants to force Marijuana to be illegal in every state again.

This BS drug war nonsense is a non-starter with me.

If that is the nominee I will obviously vote for MB but definitely not my preference.

Both highly intelligent, articulate, with a wealth of experience, and capable of dealing with the sub-gutter campaign tactics that Trump will conjure up. I'm standing by Joe, but we have a very deep bench and these two could get the job done.

Feb 2020

You can bet if he’s the nominee, all of the dirt will come out. Trump, with Russian assistance won’t let that opportunity pass. Women made the difference in the midterms and will make the difference in this election, too. Let’s not write off Warren just yet. She’s the only candidate who’s come out against the pervasive corruption that is strangling our government and our economy. Iowa and New Hampshire aren’t exactly representative of our larger population, either. There’s much more to come. Granted, we’re all beyond exhausted from the endless s**t show that’s in the WH but this is the time to dig in and fight harder. There’s too much to lose if we don’t.

Am guessing most here haven't heard the audio of Bloomberg condescendingly espousing the wonders of racial profiling?
And yes, in minority communities Bloomie says he wanted police "throwing them up against a wall" to conduct said frisks. It's "them", see?
Completely unnecessary even if you support Stop And Frisk in the first place.
Wow.
Oh and how about this gem: "All the police are deployed in minority communities because that's where all the crime is."
What a load of complete crap.
And from a candidate with a D by their name who will need upwards of 90% of the votes in the black community to win?
Please.

Yeah the racial issue is bad, after almost 4 years of complaining about Trump and Republicans being racist are we seriously considering the face of the party someone who is a proponent of racial profiling? Yeah lets elect a racist billionaire, that's never been tried before. What could go wrong.

https://www.currentaffairs.org/2020/02/a-republican-plutocrat-tries-to-buy-the-democratic-nomination/

The idea of Michael Bloomberg becoming the Democratic presidential nominee should be too absurd to even consider seriously. For one thing, he is a conservative who openly believes that the poor should be ruled over by the super-rich and is trying to buy the nomination outright. He has a history of saying monstrously offensive things about women and transgender people, and oversaw an infamous racist police regime that terrorized Black and Hispanic New Yorkers. If he did somehow manage to spend his way to the nomination, bypassing the democratic process, it would be such an outrage—and so demoralizing to the Democratic base—that it would guarantee Trump’s reelection. If the choice were between two sexist billionaires who hate the poor, how many young people would drag themselves to the polls to support “our side’s” billionaire? It would permanently disillusion an entire generation and vindicate every cynical theory of politics as a domain where money rules absolutely

Nominating Bloomie would absolutely destroy the party--except as a funnel for corporate/wall street cash.
Getting the vote out in minority communities?
Who wants to get out and vote for someone who has declared your family members public enemies who need to be harassed and "thrown up against the wall" to be unconstitutionally searched just for being themselves?
Forget it.
