Yang says part of him feels "I can't believe I lost to these people"

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/rubycramer/andrew-yang-drops-out-ends-presidential-campaign

Yang, 45, believes his campaign advanced a conversation about poverty and technology, and perhaps changed the way candidates can talk to voters in the 2020s. He outlasted governors and senators in the nominating process, and raised more money than many of them, too. His bro-ish persona, professed affinity for many of the other candidates, and easy jokes made him popular among Democrats, especially in the early states. He went from Joe Rogan’s podcast and Twitter memes to raising $16.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2019. Now, according to a senior aide, he’s considering starting an organization to do down-ballot work this year.

“If anyone had lined up a set of Washington journalists 18 months ago and lined up the candidates, no one would have bet on that,” he said. “One of the things this campaign demonstrated [is] that the institutional gateways are not what they once were.”

-snip-

“There’s part of me that feels disappointed, like I didn’t fulfill some people’s goals for this campaign,” Yang allowed, though he said he tries to maintain a positive outlook.

“There’s also a competitive part of me, too — like I can’t believe I lost to these people.”

He was on Joe Rogan's shock jock show. Rogan is a misogynist, racist homophobe.

I'd have to disagree with that. I don't think Klobuchar or Buttigieg is divisive. Who does Klobuchar "hate"? Biden isn't particularly divisive, either.

Sanders is divisive, but that's by design.

We don't have time for a centrist, a reset presidency or to fix yesterday's problems, we have to move ahead and move faster than can be imagined.

Without Yang in the mix or as the nominee, I have completely lost interest.

I have a theory as to who will be the nominee and who will win in November and I really don't believe that the results of either will be very popular here.

I also think that nobody here will be pleased with the final outcome of that race either.

So, even though you are more likely than not correct, I'll continue to fight to ensure the outcome doesn't go that way.

Unlike some others here, I actually REALLY liked Yang. I've already written my top 3 candidates of choice campaigns to encourage them to keep some of his policies on the table, especially the Universal Income initiative.

I've also written Representative Lizzie Fletcher to take that up in Congress, and my hopeful (even if not likely) next Senator MJ Hegar recommending the same.. that she take up his program and champion it as well.

and your House Representative offering your suggestions for policy proposals. I will do the same with my House Representative Lacy Clay who is very progressive. Perhaps it will make a bit of difference, beyond that having no other candidate of interest to me, I will sit things out until November and vote for the nominee. The upcoming primary in my state is of little importance to me.

Canvassing and banking my ass off to help her get reelected, but I'm also a realist and know her win was in large part due to the down-ballot effect that Beto had here. First time since the 60's when George HW Bush took the seat that a member of our party has won.. Won't stop me from trying my damndest to keep her in there though! She may not win, but when the election is over, at least I will know that I did everything within my ability to help.

I think, for good or bad, there has been an emphasis on electability over ideas in this election. I'm probably guilty of that as well. We seem to be kowtowing to this small group of people to put someone before them that they will vote for over Trump.

I get what you're saying. We may win. But the policies we get might be like a soggy sandwich--better than nothing but just barely.

It is unfortunate that we simply don't have time for a reset presidency, solving yesterday's problems or that soggy sandwich, but that is likely the best we will get, a few bones tossed to the masses to make quiet them down for awhile.
