Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumHas anyone else been approached to apply as delegates for the convention?
I've contributed to a few campaigns this season and one campaign has approached me a couple of times asking me to apply through our state as a delegate for their campaign. I was wondering if folks would be willing to share their experiences and advice in going through this process. Thanks so much

(16,855 posts)I'm definitely interested and have wanted to participate in that way, but I'm in a pretty public field, in a red state and my granddaddy always taught me to keep my politics private if I was dealing with the public.

(31,261 posts)I own a business in a red part of the state. I don't depend on people around here except for labor and business license. Two of my brothers DO own businesses that are very much dependent on local patronage. Since we look alike, my face on tv would lead to too many questions.
But like you, I would love to soak in the atmosphere of a Democratic Party nominating convention. That part is the only certainty.

(2,949 posts)Are selected by congressional district meetings. Last time i went to one (Obama/Hillary). There were people running for the positions. I think we could select two from our district. 5 or 6 folks worked the crowd seeking out votes. Michigan's congressional districts are still gerrymandered so my district at the time was spread from lower in the state (Owosso to Traverse City) we had candidates from top to bottom. Michigan's vote was divided so there was another group picking for the other candidate.

(16,855 posts)Really appreciate you sharing this info. I wasn't in TN during delegate selection last cycle, and, although I grew up here, I was away for several years and this process is new to me.
