Compromise

Buttigieg and Klobuchar and Warren have significant funding issues going forward. They will have to pick and choose the states through Super Tuesday very carefully and hope for the best in the ones they don't choose.

Sanders has significant issues with POC that will be front and center in NV and SC. That will be his crucible.

Biden is do or die in NV and SC. Anything other than a first or second place finish will likely end his campaign.

I think the best way forward is to negotiate a concession with Bloomberg to get him to drop out and financially support a brokered convention ticket that makes space for Warren, Sanders, Klobuchar and Buttigieg.
Say Klobuchar/Buttigieg with Warren as Sec of Education, Sanders at HHS and Kamala Harris as AG.
Bloomberg as Sec of Commerce.

Just a thought.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

I'd rather eat glass than willingly concede the Democratic Party nomination to Bloomberg.

Its also a horrible situation to put forth the notion that only old white male billionaires have the ability to run for president.
No Dem can come close to the money that people like Bloomberg can bring to bare. It's a scary place to be.

You drop out and I make Harris my VP or AG (Stacey may want the VP) Amy to SCOTUS (I believe she was Obama's short list) and Biden SOS. Warren keep your Senate seat, your Gov. is an R.

But Sanders has made substantial inroads with POC. And the electorate continues to change. The wisdom of the past is becoming unwise.

Much of what passes for conventional wisdom is rooted in a misunderstanding of so-called "independents" and "swing voters." True swing voters are much smaller in number than some suggest, and what they tend to "swing" against is the status quo or the party that's been in power (in a race against Trump, those voters are more likely to gravitate toward Sanders, because he can be viewed as more opposed to the status quo than his Dem rivals and more opposed to the status quo than the asshole who's been in the White House for the last 3 years). As for "independents," most are highly partisan but hate partisanship. They aren't middle-of-the-road or swing voters, even if they like to think of themselves that way or self-identify as such. Multiple studies have confirmed this. The average independent today is more partisan the average party-affiliated voter of the 1970s. They're also less likely to vote than party-affiliated voters, but it's clear that many of them (and many disenchanted youth) love Sanders (while the rest of the Dem base will vote for Sanders even if they aren't wild about him). Sanders has become increasingly electable.

Perceptions of who is viable/electable and who isn't are rooted in those misunderstandings.

16. Socialist as unelectable is hardly wisdom of the past
Wed Feb 12, 2020, 03:00 AM
Feb 2020

I saw it play out here in devastating fashion last fall. Florida primary voters stupidly elevated Andrew Gillum above Gwen Graham. Many of us who know Florida politics were stunned and concerned. But instantly we were told that our conventional wisdom was unfounded. You fools, reality will be exactly the opposite. Florida voters finally jettisoned the tepid moderate approach of 2010 and 2014 in favor of a true progressive who will excite the base and lead to record turnout in all the emerging categories like the youth vote.

What shining exemplar of overwhelming stupidity. The turnout gain was not close to what we forfeited in sheer preference. The GOP methodically portrayed Gillum as a socialist. The Spanish language commercials were particularly devastating and effective. When the exit poll showed a remarkably high percentage (46%) of Floridians who rejected Gillum as too liberal for the state, I posted a thread here immediately that night because I'd never seen anything like it in 26 years of following political math.

There are always tipoffs in the preceding midterm. I warned that we could not be dense enough to ignore the lesson from that night. Swing states are going to methodically spit out anyone easily defined as socialist, let alone self described. Gillum above Graham was basically a minor league version of the mistake we are threatening to make in 2020.

Let's put it this way...if Sanders is obvious as the nominee then the betting markets are going to shift wildly toward Trump. That has been oft discussed on the wagering forums.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Which is exactly where he ran into trouble last year. He lost every southern state in 2016.

The largest union in NV, the Culinary Workers Union, is actively campaigning against Sanders now.

He lost in SC in 2016 and has not managed any major endorsements there in 2020.

It's not impossible that he could manage both but it's a tough row to hoe.
