(301 posts)Old news, he already apologized for this and the student didn't find it offensive, not a big deal.

(16,084 posts)just strange.
I understand it though, because everyone, at some point, says something that sounded OK in their head, but totally different once it was out.
This particular phrase isn't one I've ever heard.

The student was upset by it, and couldnt understand why he called her that. Stop minimizing Joe's bad decision.

I'm not saying it was a good thing to say, but I wouldn't call it a bad decision, he didn't "decide" to insult her ... it was just a "faux pas", looking back on it I suspect he wishes he hadn't said it. The older you get the more prone you are to that sort of linguistic fumble. Its minor stuff.

(43,122 posts)really a kind of inside joke that went very foul. He should have explained it better, in the moment. What concerns me is the tone deaf aspect of it. Biden goes off message a bit, always did.

(8,144 posts)of Gaby Hays and John Wayne, this should have easily been seen as a line, not delivered with intent to humiliate.
Plant laughed, audience laughed, early news stories reported Biden said jokingly, but in typical Biden-bashing fashion, MSM transformed a laugh line into evidence of Joes misogyny, bizarre conduct, aggressive hostility on the trail.
Another swift-boating tacticturn a strength into its opposite. If Joe has AA support, paint him as a racist, if Joe has terrific rapport with audiences, cast him as a shock-jock. If Joe jokes, make his humor into a recondite reference only convalescent home audiences would get.
Of course the plant suffered retroactive trauma.
But, but he has no filter, Gen X,Y, or Z dont watch Westerns, Biden has no sense of humor because dementia, hes REALLY slipping etc.
