The Culinary Union's Endorsement can be a game changer in Nevada.

And Nevada might affect the primaries and caucuses that follow it. With their opposition to Medicare For All their endorsement could be a game changer.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

The Culinary Union, which represents 60,000 hotel workers in Las Vegas and Reno, has not yet decided whether it will endorse in the Democratic presidential primary. Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Geoconda Arguello-Kline has said the union is likely to endorse in the presidential race should its parent union decline to do so, as it did in late January.

Arguello-Kline has, in interviews over the last few months, made clear the union’s serious concerns about Medicare for all but has never specifically ruled out endorsing a candidate who supports the policy. But, in an interview with the Independent in October, she stressed the difficulty of selling a candidate who supports a single-payer system to her members.

“We have fought for 85 years to protect our health care. Why would we let politicians take it away?” the flyer says. “A history of blood, sweat, and tears secured our healthcare, not politicians promises. We fought for our health care.”

Sanders state director Sarah Michelsen said Friday the campaign feels confident about its support from working class Nevadans and the Latino community, who make up the core of Culinary’s membership. She also noted that the Vermont senator has been endorsed by several locals of UNITE HERE, the Culinary Union’s parent.
