Bernie Sanders got more young voters in New Hampshire than everyone else combined

Bernie Sanders got more young voters in New Hampshire than everyone else combined
New Hampshire’s older voters, though, were much more skeptical of Sanders.

Sen. Bernie Sanders’s win in New Hampshire on Tuesday night was fueled by young voters.

Sanders won more of New Hampshire’s young Democratic primary voters than the rest of the field combined, according to exit polls conducted by Edison Media Research for national media.

Sanders led the category of voters aged 18 to 29 with 51 percent of their votes. Former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg trailed him with 20 percent of the youth vote, followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 6 percent.

Sanders’s support was found to steadily shrink among older voters. He still won among voters aged 30 to 44, with 36 percent of their support, followed by Buttigieg at 22 percent, and Warren at 13 percent. Among voters aged 45 to 64, Buttigieg won with 27 percent, followed by Sen. Amy Klobuchar at 24 percent, and Sanders at 19 percent. Among voters 65 and older, Klobuchar got 32 percent of the vote, followed by Buttigieg at 24 percent, and Sanders at 14 percent.

Young people’s support for Sanders has been a consistent staple of his campaign, even across racial and ethnic lines. Former Vice President Joe Biden, for example, has kept a solid lead among black voters nationwide. But young black voters support Sanders over Biden by a 12-point margin, a recent Washington Post-Ipsos survey found.

And Sanders did pretty well among young voters in Iowa — getting almost half of caucusgoers under 30 there, according to entrance polls.

Vox touched on it a little:

Older people are simply a bigger part of the electorate. In New Hampshire’s Democratic primary, people 45 and older made up 63 percent of voters, according to the exit polls. People aged 18 to 29 made up just 14 percent.

Only one in every seven voters is "young".

I did have someone in my FB feed by in 2016 who didn’t understand that he didn’t get to vote in the Iowa caucuses because he lived in Oregon...

Some are just willfully ignorant; if they wanted to get involved/know/vote, there's plenty of info out there.
