(25,406 posts)She'll have a target on her back for the next one, though. Every major candidate has an oppo research file on every other major candidate, it's all a matter of when and if they play those cards.

(25,406 posts)attacking her would have been useless, and would have made the attacking candidate/campaign look like bullies. There was nothing to be gained by leaking stories about her that could be traced back to a particular campaign.
It didn't work so well for Pete when he got into a tussle with her about "Washington experience versus small-town mayor experience." She really nicked him on that in the last debate when she spoke passionately about doing the hard work of dealing with the impeachment process, tied down to the Senate chamber instead of stumping around Iowa.

(25,406 posts)The gloves are off, and candidates don't have to pretend to make nice with each other to get another candidate's caucusgoers on a realignment any more.
We still have a rough ride ahead of us, I'm afraid. When it gets down to about three people on the debate stage, that will really come out.

(1,086 posts)Bernie, Liz, and Joe know that very well. She is likely to turn an attack right back at the attacker. They will frame it all as a difference between friends as they have doe so far.
It is the Pete Amy interchanges that will be interesting.

(1,253 posts)No one was capable of killing dozens of innocents at will with something they could buy down on the corner. So well regulated now is much more important. not less.

(33,424 posts)Regulated meant in 1789 what we now call "equipped". If you asked someone in 1789 what are the regulations covering something they would not understand you. They did not use the word like we use it now. Whatever you think about the 2nd amendment "well regulated" means "well equipped" in our modern language. You need to eliminate the 2nd if that is your goal.

(1,253 posts)I am a gun owner, and support the 2nd Amendment. However, modern technology requires common sense regulation.

(2,486 posts)All of those points are true.
Bloomberg was once a Democrat, became a Republican so that he could become mayor of NYC, and has recently become a Democrat again. For those of us who think the Democratic Party has been the chief defender and champion of working people and of non-white people and of women, that is no small thing.
Sanders is a self-proclaimed democratic socialist. It's an honest position. That's one thing I admire about Sanders: his honesty. But it's a tough sell in America.
As for Buttigieg. He is a young man in a hurry. He was mayor of the fourth largest city in Indiana. That is his qualification. Some people think that's enough. Others think that, however promising his future is, Buttigieg should wait 15 years, do something good in the interim, and present himself again.

(16,159 posts)I like a lot about Mayor Pete, but I do not believe that he is ready to be President. This is not really a job you can learn on the fly - look how well The Orange One is doing!!
I have been a supporter of most of our candidates at one time or another and am (for the most part) enjoying the discussions we are having on DU.
Thanks.
