The Mike Bloomberg Black New Yorkers Know

Mike Bloomberg is finally being vetted as a presidential candidate. It took years-old audio tweeted by a journalist, not attack ads released by his feckless Democratic competitors, to make it happen. But it’s long overdue.

Podcast host Benjamin Dixon released previously obscure audio on Monday from a Bloomberg speaking engagement at The Aspen Institute in 2015. During a question-and-answer session, the former New York City mayor and current über-billionaire spouted the kind of bigoted language that one might expect to hear from the man he is now running to replace in the Oval Office.

“Ninety-five percent of your murders and murderers and murder victims, every one of them, you can just take the description and xerox it and pass it out to all the cops. They are male, minorities, 15-25. That’s true in New York. It’s true in virtually every city,” Bloomberg said, falsely. (Just more than 90 percent of those arrested for murder and non-negligent manslaughter in 2015, per the NYPD’s 2015 Crime and Enforcement Report, were black and Hispanic — but there is no accounting for age and gender. Plus, the odds that he knew the statistics for every city are slim to none.)

Sorry, but even with all his billion$ and store-bought support, he won't be able to sweep statements like this from his past under the rug:

"We disproportionately stop whites too much and minorities too little".

I excerpted this section for those who are trying to minimize Bloomberg's role in promoting repubs and how it has affected politics in NY and in our senate:
snip
He supported war criminal George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004. He set a record for donations to the New York Republican Party, and heaped “piles of cash at the feet of city and state Republican leaders.”

In 2016, he spent $11.7 million helping Republican Pat Toomey keep his Senate seat, an election that Toomey won by less than two points and that helped Mitch McConnell maintain control of the Senate. He endorsed Scott Brown in his reelection campaign against Elizabeth Warren. Bloomberg “not only backed Republicans in competitive and pivotal races” but “has also sunk money into Republican primaries on behalf of McConnell allies” like Lindsey Graham and Thad Cochran.

While Bloomberg’s donations have more recently leaned Democratic—an attempt to purchase political influence on his personal issues like gun control—his support for New York Republicans helped maintain the state senate’s decades-long Republican majority, with all of the reactionary policy that entailed, like delaying marriage equality. This is what plutocratic governance looks like: billionaires deciding which party will be in charge, in accordance with their whims and policy preferences.
snip

Hope it's ok to use this article in future posts.

It'ss being used over and over by some and all it does is say "I'm going to close my eyes and ears and blather like a child so I don't have to hear bad things about him" - even though those things are true.

All they can do is try to claim Sanders or some RW sources for the quotes. Numerous posters on here have lied abouth the source of the quotes - when in fact they came from a transcrip by the Aspen Times, not exactly a red state RW journal.

And trying to minimize his racist statements, funding of repubs (including more thnan $11M to Toomey who narrowly won in 2016, helping to keep the senate reub an dwho voted to acquit), and numerous other objectionable history is not acceptable. BTW, a recent poll showed ALL of the top Dems beating drumpf so it's funny that some keep acting like Bloomberg is the ONLY one who can win.

This will be lesser of two evils personified for black people. I had friends and family that were stopped and frisked frivolously, and routinely, during his time as mayor. I live outside the city now, but when I visited I was pulled over.

It was every 3rd visit or so and every time it was because "a suspect in the area matched my description". If you know me personally you also know for a certainty that I'm matching very few descriptions. Any suspect in question is only "matching" my description based on skin tone alone.

I got tired of that shit and limited my visits to the city for while because of the harassment. Hell, I'm still paranoid about being pulled for reasons I'm sure everybody is more than aware of. I didn't want to become a statistic so I kept my visits to the day, not that it was much help, but at least my anxiety was levied a little being pulled over in the middle of traffic. Lots of people around equals slightly less chance of becoming a statistic, sometimes.

Yet, I will still vote for that guy because we are at the point where ANYTHING is better than trump. Even a complete fake ass like Bloomberg who is only slightly better than Gabbard, but if he's who going to be foisted on us then so be it I guess.

Frankly, the mere fact we have pick somebody that will "win in the general" is disgusting. There should be no argument Trump is beyond unfit at this point. So unfit a bag of dog biscuits should win in fact, but no, a majority of white people are longing for some bullshit mythical future where the system doesn't still eat them all alive anyway.

They and the people they voted for did this and they will vote for them again. I honestly don't care for Biden and let's work with them nonsense. Would you try to feed biscuits to a dog that's mailing you? I mean that's what the Republicans are doing to the well being of the avg citizen here, but you know what Biden wins the primary and I'll vote for him. Just because they have been his friends doesn't mean they are ours.

That the Republican party as is want nothing constructive for us or their own voters. I hate HATE the hand holding that some on "my" side insist needs to be done for white people that vote for their hate. Meanwhile, they don't get their turnout and its immediately "where are the black people". Like everybody doesn't have skin in this game.

I understand only so much will be done to benefit us in particular, thats a given because the apple cart can stans only so much tipping at a time. But is it to godamn much to call Republicans and their enablers out for their bullshit? Is it??

We have to win elections and then when we do jack mother fucking shit gets done.. Look at 08 we had it all and fucked around doing shit to appease Republicans. Bipartisanship and all that jazz. We got healthcare that they proposed and they didn't even support that.

The only problem they had was a black man, yes BLACK for the "hes mixed"crowd. Or at least black enough for tea party shit, Trump shit and fucking McConnell trratimg the senate like a fiefdom. All that shit is all with these people and the country wants to come together? Not I, and not anyone in my hemisphere.

Know what, im done, I will never bring it up on this board again about how fucking offensive this all is to me personally. I will vote for who I need to vote for but, so god help me, I will NEVER be ok with any of this or my "allies" ever again.

Per 2012 NYPD Police Report

Murder and Non-Negligent
Manslaughter victims are most frequently
Black (60.1%) or Hispanic (26.7%).

The race/ethnicity of known Murder
and Non-Negligent Manslaughter suspects
mirrors the victim population with Black
(53.7%) and Hispanic (34.8%)

Shooting victims are most frequently
Black (74.1%) or Hispanic (22.2%). White
victims account for an additional (2.8%) of all
Shooting victims while Asian/Pacific Islanders
victims account for (0.8%) of all Shooting
Victims.

The race/ethnicity of known Shooting
suspects is most frequently Black (78.2%).
Hispanic suspects accounted for an additional
(18.9%) of all suspects

The Firearm Arrest population is most
frequently Black (73.2%) or Hispanic (21.5%).

The most frequently occurring
race/ethnic group within the Violent Felony
suspects is Black, accounting for (66.0%).
Hispanic suspects account for an additional
(26.1%)

Of course - as pointed out here on DU, suspects and arrests do not equal actual perpetrators- especially if they are targeted disproportionately.

On edit:
And of course the whole stop and frisk thing is BS!!
