Question about Primary states

I was just looking up information on the presidential primaries in Maine this year. Maine was just a caucus state for I believe the last two decades, but we're switching back to primaries this year. The interesting thing that I found is that even though we have the primary for voting for presidential candidates this year, we still have a caucus a few days later to select delegates.

https://www.mainedems.org/caucusFAQ

"We will use the municipal caucuses to elect delegates and alternates to the Maine Democratic State Convention based on attendees' presidential preference.
At the State Convention these delegates, within their presidential preference, will elect the people that will fill the national delegate slots awarded to qualifying presidential campaigns. (It is important to the presidential campaigns that the state delegates voting to fill their national delegate slots are actual supporters.)
The presidential primary results, on the other hand, will determine how Maine distributes its national delegates among the presidential candidates."

Is this how it is done in other presidential primary states?

Side note... I'm doing absentee ballot for the Tuesday March 3rd primary, but I'm thinking it might be cool to attend the caucus this year with my 17 year old son. This is the first year he'll be allowed to vote and the presidential primary is the first election he'll vote in. He's turning 18 just a few weeks prior to the November general election.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

So they have a process where people who are interested in being delegates sign up to get their names on the Primary ballot. How do they narrow it down so there aren't too many names on the ballot?

Anyone who can get petition signatures gets on the ballot.

In some Presidential Primaries, there have actually been competing slates of delegates for the same candidate.

Seems like there could be a lot of names in a big state like New York. Maybe they just set the signatures needed to a high number. For Maine, I think the caucus thing to see people in your community seems kind of nice for the purpose for delegate selection and plus you don't have to get all those signatures if you are actually interested in being a delegate that way. I don't think too many people will show up if it is for delegate selection. I think primary is better for voting for prez candidates though. A ton of people want to weigh in on the prez candidates, but I don't think too many care about delegates.

Minnesota does the same and still will have a primary for local and statewide candidates in the summer.

We switched this cycle also. But before that for several cycles the party ran a FireHouse primary where you could show up sign in and just vote. They tried to extend the sign in options but it just got to messy so at best you had the day of to vote.

It's June 9th this year. That's another important election for selecting the candidate to take down Susan Collins. Pretty sure it's going to be Sara Gideon. She's going to be the next senator from Maine.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
