https://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/28/nyregion/bloomberg-sues-city-council-over-living-wage-and-prevailing-wage-laws.html

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg sued the City Council on Friday, fulfilling a vow to fight two laws that would raise the wages of some private-sector workers at companies that do business with the city.

It was the first time in years that Mr. Bloomberg has sued the city’s legislative branch, and the suit underscored the occasional tensions between him and the Council speaker, Christine C. Quinn, who is a close ally, as well as a likely, and leading, candidate in the 2013 race to succeed him.

The lawsuit seeks to overturn two recently passed measures — known as the “living wage” and “prevailing wage” laws — that would increase pay for janitors, security guards and other service workers at some companies that receive government subsidies or lease space to a city agency.

Mr. Bloomberg vetoed the bills; the Council overrode his vetoes. The bills were supported by unions and pro-labor groups, but the mayor argued that higher wage requirements would discourage companies from moving to New York or entering into contracts with the municipal government.

but I did some dumb things in 2012, too.

I'll give him two things--he is not afraid to admit it when he's wrong, and he's going to help down-ticket people.

I think he's a nice addition to the cast.

As mayor from 2002 through 2013, Bloomberg’s pro-development policies were credited by business interests for powering New York City’s comeback and denounced by critics for increasing homelessness and inequality. Even decisions that seemed moderate or progressive at the time no longer do in the context of today’s politics.
