We get the brokered convention BS.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

That wasn't the case in either 2008 or 2016. With just two candidates, one of them is virtually guaranteed to get a majority. With three or more, not so.

We might still avoid a brokered convention, but it's a lot more likely than in the recent past.

But it's early days, and there's plenty of time for a single candidate to capture our nomination in the next couple of months.

Relax.

First, many of our largest states will be on Super Tuesday or shortly thereafter. CA, TX, FL, NC, GA, VA and IL are all before mid March is over. Second, we have two candidates who won't drop pretty much no matter how many states they lose in a row as long as they are earning delegates (Sanders and Bloomberg). So if we have a third who can be competitive with them, it could lead to a brokered convention.

primary today, I would vote for:

It's long been my belief that part of the reason for Democratic victory in the presidential race of 2008 was that the GOP was relatively unprepared for the nomination of Barack Obama.

For years, Hillary Clinton had been the presumptive nominee, and the GOP had carefully loaded their slime cannons with hateful anti-Hillary ammunition. In the end, they had to scramble to re-load with anti-Obama ammo, and the result was a somewhat less-coordinated attack.

So, on the balance, the chaos of a brokered convention is surely undesirable - but one potential upside is that it'll keep the bastards guessing.
