(4,959 posts)I think any candidate would work hard to GOTV for their supporters.

(32,640 posts)Also, different groups in the Spanish speaking diaspora are very socially conservative.
Also, many of those of Cuban ancestry are not going to like this:

(4,959 posts)The breakdown is interesting, against conventional DU wisdom, his weakest demographic is white males.
There are older polls too, dont think it was quite as high as 48% but well ahead of the other candidates. Im on my phone so I'm not really able to navigate RCP to find the specific polls.
You are absolutely right that the Hispanic Dem demographic isn't a monolith, but overall it is Bernie's strongest demographic, which bodes well for him in NV.

(32,640 posts)I'm thinking those who have immigrated from Cuba in the last two generations might not see this as a positive:

(32,640 posts)judging by the response to OPs on it on DU.
The pushback against any vetting concerning Bernie's early political career as "attacks" and "irrelevant" underscores that it's suprising people, even his supporters.
I'm thinking that there are a lot of people, particularly in the Spanish speaking population, in Nevada who aren't on DU.
And I think that the majority of the Cuban diaspora is in Florida and NYC, not in Nevada.

(4,959 posts)So I'm not sure what that has to do with me.
In any case, most of it appears to be based in fact, the right has been trying to discredit him with it since he hit the national stage, and if it isn't gaining traction as a way to lessen his support among Democratic voters then I guess it isn't a deal breaker. If people aren't aware of it, all they need to do is google. It's not like it's a secret. Its all over the rwnj sites.
I don't usually watch cable news, but Chris Mathews had a rant a couple weeks ago, maybe the day of the Iowa caucus? Anyway he talked about Bernie's past participation with communist parties to claim that if Bernie had his way there'd be executions of people like Chris Mathews in Central Park and Bernie would be watching in glee. It was bizarre. But the takeaway seemed to be that Mathews is nuts, not that Bernie is an evil commie ready to behead the capitalists, lol.

(32,640 posts)You made a statement about other people, and I responded with what I have seen from other people.
This thread shows just how many Sanders supporters don't know about it...

Is that clearer?
No, actually, it's been in mainstream politically neutral publications, not simply rwng sites. In fact, the GOP has been very supportive of Bernie's run for the nomination.
I'm not sure what this has to do with me. I don't watch Chris Matthews or cable news.

We cannot allow the unsophisticated masses to fund candidates that dont understand what the rules are.

(383 posts)The NV caucus in 2016 was a disorganized fiasco and this time Sanders has plenty of eyes and ears out at the caucus level to verify the integrity of the process. Feeling very confident this time!
