If 2015 or '16 Bloomberg said he would run 3rd party if Bernie got the nomination.

(11,986 posts)...yeah, we probably would have won. We could have gotten a lot more people who ended up going for Trump, and I think we still would have gotten all the Dems and anti-Trumpers who we got anyway.

Now there will be ads 24/7 of him praising Castro (can kiss Florida good bye with that), his support for the Iran hostage takers in 1980 wont do him any good either. There are at least 40 years of his speeches that the GOP will comb through. It wont be pretty.

(8,052 posts)candidate on our side (Bernie) may have done better. That's why Trump appealed to so many--a non-politician TV personality who was the hero for the "I don't care" dumbshits who unfortunately still vote in this country. Now, I'm not so sure that's the national mood anymore, unfortunately for Bernie. More uphill for him this time around.

(16,372 posts)And yes, I voted for Hillary. But his appeal to working class voters because of his positions on labor and trade was self-evident. And Trump appealed to the same group. Think of it this way: Who ya gonna vote for? The bragging bully who had never put his money where his big mouth was or a Senator who has taken the positions you want on crucial issues to you for the past 40 years? It's pretty obvious who meant it and who might or might not.
Does that mean that the trade policies Bernie advocates were all that great? Of course not. But unlike Trump, he would not have ignored Congress or destroyed the Justice system, and he knows how to compromise when necessary.

(25,457 posts)Without exposure to GOP vetting, we really don't know if Sanders would have won, the claims to the contrary notwithstanding. Personally, I think the stack of stuff they are no doubt sitting on would be a formidable problem in the GE.
