Is asking the name of the President of Mexico a gotcha question?

Last edited Fri Feb 14, 2020, 06:01 PM - Edit history (1)

Jake Tapper ✔@jaketapper

Steyer, Klobuchar and Buttigieg were asked to name the Mexican President.

“I forget,” says Steyer.

"Can you tell me his name?" Klobuchar is asked. “No," she says.

Buttigieg correctly says Obrador.

Fri Feb 14, 2020, 04:21 PM

He’s saying it was President.....(pause)....my boss, it was his fault.

The video is used as an example. Biden couldn’t remember the name of his boss. So if one is going to make fun of Amy or Steyer......I think Biden not remembering is either a gaffe or evidence of memory problems.

Feb 2020
https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2019/october/why-is-vice-president-biden-s-stutter-being-ignored-.html

For example, during a recent Town Hall, Biden avoided saying President Obama’s name to prevent his stuttering from coming to the surface (i.e., he stuttered on “Obama,” stopped himself before it became noticeable, and said, “My boss” instead). What many perceived as Biden “forgetting” Obama’s name was actually Biden’s attempt to get through stuttering as quickly and comfortably as he could in that moment. Biden was subsequently mocked and ridiculed in the media.

Once you're aware of what speech experts on stuttering say about the coping mechanisms, stutterers switching to a different word, it's easy to see how often Biden does it.

López Obrador. The former is his patronymic, the latter his matronymic. We generally don't use a matronymic in the US, so his last name, if shortened to US style, would be López. But the full last name is preferable; for example, we say Julia Louis-Dreyfus, not Julia Dreyfus or Julia Louis.
