Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumPoll: Bloomberg overtakes Biden in Florida
Michael Bloomberg is leading the pack of Democratic presidential hopefuls in Florida, according to a new survey from St. Pete Polls, a sign that the former New York City mayor has picked up traction in a crucial swing state before most of his rivals have even started to campaign there.
The poll shows Bloomberg with 27.3 percent support in the Sunshine State, up 10 points from a similar poll released late last month. Biden, meanwhile, has seen his support in Florida plummet, falling from more than 41 percent in January to 25.9 percent this month.
Former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are jockeying for third place in the state, notching 10.5 percent and 10.4 percent respectively, while Sen. Amy Klobuchar sits in fifth with 8.6 percent support.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and billionaire activist Tom Steyer round out the top seven in the poll with 4.8 percent and 1.3 percent support respectively.
Floridas Democratic presidential primary is still more than a month away. But the St. Pete poll suggests that Bloombergs aggressive spending has allowed him to build early name recognition in the nations largest and most volatile general election battleground.

(1,773 posts)The progressive and centrist wings of our party may have their differences, but at the end of the day, we all share a set of core values as Democrats.
Mike Bloomberg does not share those same values. His past speaks for itself. This is an abomination.

(4,558 posts)Refusing to engage you or anyone else in Democratic Party candidate to Democratic Party candidate attacks, especially when it's regarding a 12 year old thing that our candidate has apologized for whilst your side continue to ignore children in cages at our border today, and attack the person that's instituting that.
This doesn't equate to my ignoring the past, it's about your ignoring the present and much more severe issue right in our face to attack this outdated thing.

(8,617 posts)The number 1 issue is removing Trump. Bloomberg appears to be the best one to do that.
BTW, he has since apologized repeatedly for those remarks and is working towards making amends.

Sorry, but that (D) used to mean the polar opposite of everything this man is. If it no longer does, there's nothing left to discuss here.

(11,885 posts)And Bloomburg is just taking advantage of his pitiful drop in support . People see Biden now as someone with no chance of winning against trump , and is failing to even hold his own against other Democrats. Biden's done, and has proven he isn't winning anyone over now as people are running from supporting him now. Maybe why Bloomburg is running now, he saw this coming. Donors are done with Joe Biden now, and many people are too after his exposing himself as being so flawed and unappealing. Joe's lost in the past. poor policies, and performances are catching up to him now, and Nevada or SC will not save him. Bloomburg is finishing him off with a few others helping him now as Biden's campaign runs dry. Warren may soon be next if she doesn't do a lot better.

(12,047 posts)MIAMI - In a warehouse covered in murals in the Design District here, cater waiters served wine and platters of Cuban sandwiches, summer rolls and kosher pigs in a blanket. They wore all black but for red, white and blue T-shirts reading I Like Mike Bloomberg.
Before the candidate took the stage - set against an oversize painting reading Mike 2020 that a local artist had been paid thousands to produce in 36 hours - the former mayor of Miami Beach, Philip Levine, introduced him.
Bloomberg, the multibillionaire behind Bloomberg LP, has poured hundreds of millions of dollars into the race, paying to make his voice omnipresent on television and radio. He has deployed his corporation in service of his campaign, reassigning employees from the various arms of his empire and recruiting new ones with powerful financial incentives, including full benefits and salaries well above national campaign norms.
Entry-level field organizing work for Bloomberg, for example, pays $72,000 annually - nearly twice what other campaigns have offered. In under 12 weeks, Bloombergs operation has grown to a staff of thousands, with more than 125 offices around the country and a roster of slick events featuring swag, drinks and canapés.
Such spending has helped make Bloomberg an increasingly strong contender in the Democratic presidential primary.
