Chuck Todd must go: His 'brown shirt' slur of Bernie Sanders makes him unqualified

to be an unbiased host

(snip)

My father, Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, was a frequent guest on NBC’s “Meet The Press” for more than 30 years. His ex-chief of staff, Tim Russert, became the show’s longest-serving host. As ambassador to the United Nations, Moynihan defended the assault on the state of Israel led by UN Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim, who was later exposed as a wartime Nazi. In his famous speech before the General Assembly in November 1975, Moynihan said, “A great evil has been loosed upon the world; the specter of anti-Semitism has been given the appearance of international sanction.”

Sen. Moynihan would be outraged to see how Chuck Todd has disgraced the legacy of “Meet The Press” newsmen he knew well: Russert, Lawrence Spivak, Marvin Kalb, Roger Mudd and Garrick Utley.

Todd and his spin team are trying to obfuscate his culpability, saying he was just reading a quote from writer Jonathan Last. But Todd is also political director for NBC News, and he cannot play coy and pretend he didn’t know exactly what he was doing by likening Bernie supporters to Nazi brownshirts.

At a time when our world is beset by innumerable crises, it is critical for mainstream media to uphold standards of conduct and purpose. “Meet the Press” began as a radio show in 1945, and debuted on television on November 6, 1947. It is the longest-running program in the history of American television. It is shocking that NBC has not yet demanded Todd’s resignation, and is allowing him to host the Democratic debate in Las Vegas next week.

"At least one outlet held their own reporting to account when Ralston’s came under question. NPR ran with Ralston’s second-hand assertion about thrown chairs, but their ombudsman later pegged Ralston (who did not witness the chair-throwing) as the sole source behind the widely-repeated claim and admitted that no evidence had been produced that anyone had thrown chairs"

I find it laughable that anyone considers ratings a factor in whether a show continues.
